Either I'm the dumb one or she is....

I'm frustrated right now. A Project Manager in my company just doesn't seem to understand anything I tell her. I'm doing the testing for our project, and when I email or her give the results as clear as I possibly can, she gets confused and asks me to give them a different way. And it only seems to happen when I send them, not when anyone else does.

On Thursday, myself and another girl did some testing. The other girl sent her a list of our results, everything went over peachy.
Today, I retested those because we found some errors. I sent the PM my list of results. She asked me a clarifying question if what I sent her was all of the same errors from Thursday. I tell her no, and explain which errors are still valid. She still doesn't get it and asks me to resend the list from the other girl but just delete the options that are working now.  Which is exactly what I did in the first place, except I did clean it up a bit to make it (I THOUGHT) easier to follow.  So I sent them again as the original girl had them formatted and she was perfectly happy with that and apparently understood it beautifully.

Example of the email the other girl sent:

Certificate menu Option 3 sub option 4 - blahblhablahh error message

Example of what I sent:

Menu 3 > Option 3 > Sub Option 4 - blahblahblah error message

It's nearly identical, but instead of making you figure out which menu is for Certificates, I gave you the number (which matches our test cases and list of prompts we use for testing which she has also

I don't think I'm being that complicated, am I? It makes me feel like an idiot in front of other team members when she has to ask me again. For a little while, I wasn't even involved in a portion of the testing, I'm assuming for this reason, even though I'm the only actual tester on the project. The other girl is just helping as she has some employees who can do testing in other languages.

  • I guess I wouldn't try to change the reports and present them as is like your co-worker is doing. Either she has an issue with you, or she can't decipher your simplified version.
