Ha ha.  I have to say as much as I was not a fan of Outlander, I certainly would choose it over plucking my eyeballs out with tweezers.  OUCH!

Sigh. The only allowances I will give are that #1 She's overly descriptive. I remember thinking "oh my God, I don't care how each leaf looks!" and #2 the slang is hard to get into for some people.

Being descriptive doesn't bother me. I don't think this is a safe topic to get into. haha

I don't trust Apparat at all. Kingslayers in general are bad news (see what I did there?). Just bad vibes all around from this guy even in book one. But yes, he has to be significant in book 3.

Also, Toyla and Tamar! Ugh..the betrayal and the saviors. So many feels. I love the conversation between Tamar and Alina where Alina compares herself to a weed, and Tamar says that weeds are survivors. Greatness.

Do we ever figure out what happens to the shadow creatures if the Darling dies?
Are we all in agreement that the Darkling must die? I think that going against nature is a pretty solid reason to perish, even for charming villains.

That wasn't my impression, but I don't know. If so, would she have to be in "range" to use them? Those things really are the stuff of nightmares for me.

Also, do you think the bite affected her somehow? She theorizes throughout the book, but do we ever get a definitive answer? Did the bite heighten the connection between the Darkling and Alina? I would assume that her using his power definitely did.

I will cry if the Darkling dies.  For reals.

I think the author wants us to believe the Apparat is evil.  However, I think she is trying to fool us and he will really turn out to be good.  

I still love Toyla and Tamar and Genya as well.  They are flawed but I think in general they mean well.

I'm pretty sure if the Darkling dies, the shadow figures go with him.  Alina was just using his power by touching him, just like he used hers back in the first book, it's not like Alina herself has the power to conjure those things.

OMG - Talya saying "I couldn't be the one to keep him from you" - I DIED.

I think the fact that Nikolai is the only one who is left to be king could be his one saving grace, UNLESS somehow whatever revelation we have about Mal leads to him being king, but I really doubt that's how it will go down.

I feel like there HAS to be some kind of A-HA moment coming for Mal in the next book.  He has just been too boring to be hanging around this long without him having some sort of big revelation or moment.

She was saying that to the Apparat, it was more convenient for her to be dead.  She realizes that he is basically trying to martyr her, and that is what plants the seed of vengeance.  I LOVED that whole last scene - it was like, here's this image of a broken, half-dead girl on the outside, but on the inside she's still fighting.

It's not when he touches her bracelet - it's when he touches her OTHER wrist, the one she keeps thinking feels naked.  Thus the Firebird theories.

@84Lauren I know she was saying that from the Apparat's position, it would be better for her to be dead. I just didn't like it. I wanted more fire from her.

I know I'm being ridiculous, but I feel like there was growth in Alina in this book. She's not the victim she was in book one. She makes a stand with the Grisha to unify them, even though it isolates her. She fights the Darkling even as she knows it will kill her. It was just hard to see her slumping in a cave. I wanted to end with blue war paint and a cry for freedom.

So I just read through that post and I've discovered we all hate Zoya with a passion, and we're all secretly whores. lol

I don't remember who said it, but I wholeheartedly agree. The fighting scene with Mal raised him to hot status in my book.
