I know they're trying to curb the craziness that's been happening over fighting between reviewers and authors, but this seems extreme to me.

How sad. People are acting like children so they have to police them like they're children.

It's their attempt to discourage people who have never read a book from giving it a bad review. This is a direct result of the latest "Goodreads Bullying" situation. It's such a large network, I don't know what else they could have done. But on the flip side of that, people will always find a way around it. Authors need to grow up and stop fighting back with reviewers. That would solve half the problem.

I am never in the loop about Goodreads drama. So people were leaving negative reviews for books they didn't read because they didn't like the author?

Don't get me wrong, if I can't finish a book I give it a low rating and explain why in my review. But the above just seems childish.

I'm happy for them to at least to some degree police what people are posting in regards to bashing authors without having read the books.  I just hope they'll continue to remember, though, that Goodreads is for readers, not authors.  If it becomes a site for authors to promote and reviewers are limited in their reviewing because of that, I'll be disappointed.
