Job Offer!
I got a job offer!! I am very happy there is an escape route to get out from under the thumb of my horrible manager. But of course, there are some downsides, the major one being less money (about $8,000 - $10,000 less) and a crappy pension/RRSP program (the Canadian version of 401K). But, the main reasons for this is because where I am now is considered government, so I get above average wages and they have an unheard of pension. So it's not that I'd be in a bad situation with the new gig - just not a cushy one like I am now.
That being said, there are some perks though, other than the obvious of not having a horrible boss - someone I trust has said that this new company is great to work for and her manager at the time (which would be one of my new managers) is the best person she's ever worked for and probably ever will work for. The other two people I interviewed with also seem amazing. They pay for "general interest courses", so I can enjoy free language classes, exercise classes, etc. And I'd get my birthday off. Plus paid time for appointments and the typical health benefits, etc. I've emailed back a request for more vacation and hopefully a bit more money, so we'll see how those go over.
I feel like I have to take this offer to get away from my current manager, but it also seems like it's a nice opportunity too, so while I'm kind of being forced to leave, at least it's for a good place.
