Moving to SA...

Hi There!

My name is Bridget, 31 currently reside in the Washington, DC metro with my husband and our two children ages 3.5 and 2 years and our first babies covered with fur, 2 boxers... My husband has an opportunity to relocate to San Antonio in the next 6-8 weeks... Kind of scary but exciting too! I have only ever driven through San Antonio, so I don't even know where to start...

I am looking at area's to live in (rentals for now... planning to buy in 12 months or so)

Montessori School recommendations? Pre-school/day care cost estimates?

What do I need to know?

Favorite part of living in SA?

Thanks in Advance!

Bridget

Re: Moving to SA...

  • I'm in San Antonio right now with my husband.  Don't know much about the Montessori schools but San Antonio itself is pretty nice.  There is ALWAYS something to do but for us it was a HUGE culture shock coming from NY.  There is a lot of Hispanic culture down here which means grocery stores are always crowded late at night with lots of children running around and not much happens before 10 am.  San Antonio is also over 1 million people and the civil engineering (roads) are not fantastic.  There is tons of traffic with roads that were not built to handle that much traffic.

I lived in Leon Valley first which was fine for me as a young single but I wouldn't recommend it for families.  Now I live in the Stone Oak area, which is much nicer and more affluent.  There are two loops in San Antonio, 410 and 1604.  What I've been told and heard is that outside of 1604 is where the nicer homes and safer homes are.

I worked as a teacher at Westover Hills Learning Center and liked it there-they take good care of the kids.  Now I teach for NEISD and my co-workers have children at other daycares outside of loop 1604.  From what I've heard, its quite a chunk of money for any of these places.
