Relocating and looking for info :)
Hey guys!
My man and I are moving to Austin and I'm hoping you ladies wouldn't mind sharing some info
We're looking at the southwest part of Austin...what are good neighborhoods, apartments, health food stores, parks, doctors, midwives, local attractions, etc? What areas/apartments/etc should we stay away from?
Thanks for your help!!!
Re: Relocating and looking for info :)
Where in South Austin are you moving to? Weird as it sounds, it makes a HUGE difference.
Health food stores? Austin is PACKED with them! Austin is a very health conscious city; we've got Wheatsville Co-Op, Sprouts, Whole Foods and probably others I'm not thinking of.
Local attractions? Depends on what floats your boat. Like water activities? We've got LOTS of lakes! Stand Up Paddleboarding seems to be a new rage here. There's Zilker Park (the Trail of Lights should be up and turned on soon; get under the tree and spin!). There's Mount Bonnell. The Capital. Historic 6th Street (be careful after dark! No, seriously). Twice a year there's the Pecan Street Festival (which is on 6th Street). Austin City Limits Festival. F-1 and all the races at the Circuit of the Americas track. Bike races pretty much all year long. Marathons. If you want to experience it or try it, Austin is really one of the best places to be. Of course, that's coming from a native Austinite, so I'm biased.
Austin can be VERY hit or miss on good/bad parts of town. There are parts of, say, Riverside Drive that are being revitalized and cleaned up, but there are also parts that are still shady and dangerous. You kind of have to go and look and get a feel for the areas yourself.
However, nice places are Tarrytown (RICH!), Westlake (RICH!), Circle C (RICH!).
Doctors? Again, all subjective and who your insurance covers. Like, I LOVE my GP, but she's with Austin Regional Clinic, and she works at the office in Kyle (Dr. Gamble). I'm on the hunt for an OB I can trust since we're TTC.
Welcome to Austin!
