WIJFR: Joyland (spoilers!)

OMG I LOVED this book!  It's so funny how no matter how much I already think SK is a genius, after finishing another book of his I haven't read it surprises me again that he is a fucking genius.

I was worried that the shortness of this one would lose some of what I love about SK, but it didn't in the slightest.  No one in the entire world can make me fall in love with characters like him.  I adored Devin, I wanted to put him in my pocket.

I totally did not guess that it was Lane, though I did guess when he thought maybe he saw a car down there that Mike had "seen" what was happening and sent Annie.  And Eddie being the one who told him!  LOVED!

I think I am going to make October SK month.  I want to re-read UTD, and read Carrie and Pet Sematary (embarrassing that I have not read these).

  • Ahhh!! I'm so happy you loved it!!

I, too, was completely surprised when I found out Lane was the culprit.  Thinking about it, it seems right.

Eddie. Oh Eddie!! This took me by complete surprise! At first, I thought it would be the old man that came to Mike since they had that type of relationship.

I loved all the characters so much!

BTW- I'm making October SK month too.  All first time books for me though :)

  • I loved this too! I thought that his other hard case crime book was great too- The Colorado Kid. If you liked Joyland I think you'll like it too.

I think I super loved the setting most of all- what can spark imagination more than an amusement park? Not much.

Yes!  And it totally made me want to go visit an old classic amusement park.

  • Add me to the group who loved the book and never guessed it was Lane!

At times it didn't really feel SK-y to me, but I still loved it! The characters (and character development) were totally his style.

  • I loved Joyland! SK did nostalgia as perfect as when he wrote The Body. I was so attached to Devin that I really wished it had been 500 pages longer.
