Green Tea?

Hi Ladies!  I haven't been around for a couple years and there are lots of new names on here and a few that I remember.  :)  Anyways, a little about me.... I started trying to get pregnant in November of 2010 and had a chemical pregnancy right away.  The next cycle I was extremely lucky and got pregnant with my daughter (almost 2 now).  My husband and I just recently started trying for a second baby and I'm getting back into the swing of things with TTC.  I maybe should post on GP but I haven't been on there in even longer than here so I thought I'd try here first since many of you have gotten pregnant recently.  My questions: what's the deal with green tea?  At which point in your cycle are you supposed to start drinking it?  Thanks in advance!

Re: Green Tea?

  • Whoops.  I was going to put this on the mom's board.  (It's obviously been awhile since I've posted) But, since I'm here, if anyone can answer my green tea question, I'd really appreciate it.  Thanks!

  • You drink green tea every day from CD 1 until O. It's supposed to increase your CM.

  • Whoops!

It increases cervical mucus, so if you need help with that then start on cycle day one.

  • I definitely have seen an increase in CM while drinking green tea. It works for me, even with me not ovulating.

this is what I've heard, but I've never tried it myself.

    Welcome Back :)
  • Green tea seems to increase my CM. I drank it from CD-O. I really enjoy green tea so even though I am not currently TTC I still drink 1-2 cups a day.

Also, you are welcome to post here! Most of us are trying for our first, but there are a few trying for a 2nd. You can post baby/mom related stuff on GPM and TTC stuff here.

  • I don't know how you guys drink green tea at all. I will drink sweetened green iced tea with lemon, but the regular stuff I can't choke down.

If it's plain green tea, I do need it sweetened a bit (either sugar or honey). The tea I've been drinking recently has coconut in it, so it lends a little different flavor and some natural sweetness. It's been pretty good!

  • @bruinsbabe33 when I drink green tea, it's cold and sweetened. Mostly I drink Arizona Diet Decaf Green Tea. It's delicious.

I found the same to be true for me. I was typically drier and had issues with that so green tea made a huge difference. Plus, it's good for you TTC or not... Drink up!

I think you aren't supposed to drink it after O because of something to do with it blocking the folic acid absorption? Don't quote me on that but I think I remember reading that somewhere.

    Why is this?
According to my acu the reason for not drinking it while TTC is something about it interfering with cell division or something like that. He said it's often recommended that cancer patients drink it to prevent cell growth so just thinking about conception and cell growth division etc I just chose not to drink it.

Dr. Google tells me that it blocks folic acid absorption, iron absorption and can block absorption of other nutrients. It can cause neural tube defects in women that drink a lot of it. Also it does contain caffeine and depending on the tea it can have more caffeine than other teas. So that would be why it's not recommended in pregnancy. Probably one of those things where a cup here or there won't matter by I take the view as why take a chance.
