wheel of time series question. (ns)

So a coworker, who is also a voracious reader, brought in the first 4 books of the series for me to read. She is a big sci/fi fantasy read and I am not. Its the one area of books I tend to not read without a vehement recommendation from a close friend.

Are they books that transcend the genre or are they pretty classic fantasy novels? I fell asleep reading the first 10 pages last night and I am trying to figure out of its worth my time to try again.

Fwiw I didn't ask for the books and even mentioned I am not a huge fantasy fan before she brought them in for me.

I'd say there pretty strongly fantasy.  I've read the first four so far, and I plan to finish, but they're so long I usually take breaks in between.  Lots of magic, epic journeys, battles between good and evil that use both magic and might.  I double you would care much for them if you don't like fantasy as a rule.  The stories are really good and there's lots of detail, which is why each book is around 900 pages or so.  Also, there are 14 books in that series.  14.

Thanks! I had a feeling that was the case. And yes I knew it was 14 books! Another reason I am hesitant to take on the series

I think I will give them back to their owner. I have to long of a tbr list to read book I have no interest in from the start.

Yeah they are fantasy, or considered epic fantasy. I enjoy them (the first one was a little hard to figure out what was going on, until I sat down and just read for an hour strait).
