WIJFR: Dark Places, by Gillian Flynn (NS)

A masterfully disturbing yet compelling book. I don't know how Flynn manages to create such flawed, fairly awful people and still keep the reader engaged in the story. She has a true gift.  I think I liked this better than Gone Girl, and I've put Sharp Objects on hold.  She's got a dark, dark mind, but I feel compelled to read her stuff.  This reminded me of the Truman Capote book In Cold Blood, and I'd bet money she got the idea from there, but she took it in a whole different direction (not to mention that ICB was based on true events and this is fiction).

  • I read this not long ago and I absolutely loved it. I agree, she really is incredibly talented!

  • Loved Dark Places! This was my favorite after Gone Girl, although Sharp Object was really good too. I'm itching for a new Flynn novel!
  • She is definitely talented. I read this when my husband was out of town and ended up sleeping with the lights on that night because I was so freaked out!

  • I liked Dark Places much more than Sharp Objects. She's so good at creating characters you really want to hate but you still want to read about them anyway.
Whether or not you find your own way, you're bound to find some way. If you happen to find my way, please return it, as it was lost years ago. I imagine by now it's quite rusty.”

  •  I fangirl/girl crush GF hard! Gone Girl has been my favorite thus far but Dark Places came in to a close second.  I can't wait for her to come out with something new!!

  • I just requested Dark Places on audio from the library.  Thanks.  I also just requested Game of Thrones on audio, so we'll see which comes in first, I guess.
  • I have that one and Gone Girl. Found them both for a great price at a library book sale. I want to read them so bad (among the hundred others that NBC talks about) but I want to wait for a day when I have time to really sit and read a good portion of it.

  • I just might have to read this. I just read the summary on Goodreads and it feels like it gives the whole book away!
