Going back to school.... ?
Hi everyone!
So I am thinking about going back to school. I have a few classes left to get my bachelors degree in business.
So that will be my first goal.
However, I'm thinking I want to go back for something else. Bachelors in business is so broad.. I am thinking about going back for something more specific.
Anybody know how "event planners" do? In the back of my mind I've always thought about it... but am TORN!
Any other options that I could go back to school for that would make decent money?
ps. I'm going through a 5-year break up (engagement) right now. So I'm kind of all over the place. Just looking to do the right thing but still undecided about school...... And I'm 24 years old! I think thats still semi-young to go back... but nervous as heck!
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everybody
Re: Going back to school.... ?
I did the same thing about 5 years ago. I was going to school at a community college so I could be closer to my exfiance instead of going to school for my passion. About a year into college, he broke ties, leading me to finally get back into what I really wanted to do. I enrolled the next semester to my 1st pick school and met my now SIL. She introduced me to H and we have been together since.
Now, school had to take a backroad because I unexpectedly became pregnant, so I decided to go back to the community college and get my degree in Office Assistance. I finally graduated with my Associate's in June, got married in July.
I will be going back to school next year to finally start the road for my Bachelor's in Engineering (not my first choice, but with the way the market is, Architecture won't be a wise career choice).
I would definitely look into sites that describes the different types of business concentrations you can go into. If you really want to go into planning, ask an event planner if you can sit down with her/him and ask a few questions. It may give you an insite on how the job is. You can always take some core classes that can easily transfer over if you realize this is not the path you would want to go into.
With your degree in Business, you have a great opportunity even in this economy. There is always someone looking for leaders/managers/analysts.
Good luck, and go towards your dreams. Figure out what your heart wants and go with it.
I strongly suggest you finish your BS in Business. Event Planning would really fall under a Marketing concentration for business anyway. However, I've heard event planning is a REALLY tough industry to be in right now. Events/conferences are one of the first areas businesses cut out when the economy is rough. For example, we have a family friend (in So. Cal.) who had a wildly successful career for 25 years in event planning (owned her own business), but then had business drop to almost nil when the bottom dropped out a few years ago. Her house even got foreclosed on.
At least with a Bachelor's in Business, it gives you an opening for a lot of different jobs/careers and will be the most helpful degree for you when it becomes a better time to go into event planning.
