Should I be concerned?

In the past week or two my dog Abby seems to always be in her crate.  It's in the living room and the door is always open and lately she just goes in there whenever she wants to sleep which seems like a lot.  My husband leaves for work much earlier than I do and usually when I would come downstairs in the morning she was on her dog bed or the couch, now, she is in her crate and stays in there until I leave for work (the door is open, she can come in and out when she wants).  The same at night...she has a scheduled playdate with another pup that tires her out and after she plays she lays on the kitchen floor next to us when we eat dinner but when we sit down to watch tv in the living room she goes in crate?

She gets walked every day with play dates and play time in yard.  Eating/bathroom habits are same.  Went to vet last week for vaccine updates, had a wellness exam and all was good.  Will be 2 years old around Jan (she is a rescue).  It just seems odd how much she goes in there to sleep now...?

  • I see nothing wrong with any of this. A dog that loves her crate?! That's awesome!

  • Maybe she just likes the quiet of the crate. My pets all go through phases of places that they like to sleep--last month our dog mostly hung out on the chaise part of our sectional, this month he and the cats have switched places so he's been sleeping in front of the sunny window in the dining room. We've never crated our dogs but I'd think it would be a good thing if the dog feels like their crate is a safe place where they can hang out and nap if they want.

Has there been any other behavioral changes? If you're really worried about it maybe call the vet and see what they say? It could be that she's just outgrowing all of that puppy energy and just doesn't feel the need to be quite as active.
?Laugh whenever you can. Keeps you from killing yourself when things are bad. That and vodka.?

  • i wouldnt be too concerned either. She could be coming out of her puppy stage. Or she could have just figured out that she enjoys relaxing in her crate

  • Thanks for the feedback, I do feel better!
  •  Also, a lot of times changes in the home can negatively affect the way animals behave. Either of your schedules change? If you have kids, did they start school? I wouldn't worry about it either, but if you notice anything else, take her to the vet. GL!
