dogs ate advil (don't worry already went to vet)

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this... I got a call around 2pm on Tuesday from the dog walker that our dogs had gotten into my purse and there was a chewed up bottle of Advil with only 1 pill left.  It was a small bottle that only held 10 pills.  I rushed home and got them to the vet.  Since they had almost certainly eaten it more than 2 hours before they got the the vet, there was no point in inducing vomiting.  We have no idea if they both ate it, just one of them, and how many pills were eaten since I can't remember what was left in the bottle.  The vet pumped them both full of fluids, gave us pills that will help coat the lining of their stomachs, took a baseline kidney level, and gave us a bunch of signs/symptoms to watch for.  We brought them back 36 hours later and their kidney levels were still normal, and they hadn't shown any signs of illness.  The vet said that the next 3 days were critical, and they seem to be just fine - eating, drinking, peeing/pooping, playing all normal.  Do you think we are in the clear, or is this something that could still cause damage?   This certainly serves a reminder to not leave anything out in the house!  That purse has always been in the same spot, and they've never touched it - they just decided that they would tear into it out of the blue!

  • gosh that is scary! I would just keeping following your vets instructions. sounds like it is working and hopefully you caught it early enough.  Any thing that pops as unusual in the next week, i would be calling the vet.  Hope you are in the clear!!!

  • Sounds like you might be ok. It generally takes a couple days for kidney issues to show, but if two days later they are acting fine, that's pretty good news. Best of luck!
