Holiday crafts

What's the biggest holiday craft you ladies are taking on this season?

Re: Holiday crafts

  • I am our MOPS group Creative Activities Coordinator.

So for Thanksgiving, we are doing the Martha Stewart Pin-Up Wreath.  We will hand out thanksgiving themed ribbon and leaves made out of card-stock for the family to write down what they are thankful for that week.

Then for Christmas, we are going to make our own cardstock boxes for our cookie exchange.

For personal crafting, this year is a Candy Cane/Peppermint Christmas.   DD makes our Christmas Card every year, so she will be doing a finger-print candy canes.   http://leapfrogandladybugs.blogspot.com/2011/12/candy-cane-craft-how-to.html

RIght now I am in the middle of making my table top Peppermint Christmas Tree for our mantle. But I am not sure which one I want to do:

    or

But I will be working on those two crafts this week

  • Nothing terribly big I think.  A bunch of scarves, like 12 I think, for various people.  A couple of pairs of socks.

I also have to figure out some kind of snowman craft for my parents this year.  I've done one every year for about 5 now, so it's sort of tradition.

I also hope to finish on an afghan for the living room so I can say "Merry Christmas to me!" but that's not a priority.

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to."
    "I don't much care where –"
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go.”

  • These are good ideas!  And I like the second peppermint tree!
  • Hi, I'm trying to be more active on this board. I'm otherwise mostly just on the Book Club and What's Cooking boards.

I just made a felt wreath for Halloween (I posted it above). I don't have anything else planned for the fall.

For Christmas, I'm making a scrabble frame for my friend. She and her husband both have a love for scrabble.

I'm making these mirror ornaments for one of my trees.

I'll probably make a few of these candy holders, some braided fleece dog rope toys and some felt ornaments

I also might try a batch of cinnamon ornaments

And now I realize I need to get a move on some of these!

I usually make ornaments out of the wooden bits that are sawed from the bottom of the live trees that are sold.

It's easy to do --- I usually look at the wood and see what I "see" in the pattern of the wood. I paint the wood accordingly --- I use acrylic paint or watercolors.

I add an eyehook at the top and then I loop ribbon through it.

I'd attach a photo of one of them but the pic isn't uploading.:(
  • I started doing cross stitch a few years ago when my niece was born. I got back into it earlier this year after we moved. I had stumbled onto a pattern on etsy with test tubes and beakers on it. I decided to make ornaments for my coworkers (since I work in a laboratory) and stitch the test tubes on them. Not a big project but very time consuming since there are seven people altogether, I started a second job on the weekends and the fact that I can't do what I've normally been doing (working on it on my lunch breaks at work)
