Calling all ferret owners

A) Lets see some pictures of your babies!

B) Has anyone had trouble with a clean-freak ferret? One of ours (we have two) has to have the litter box completely clean before he will go in it. Err!

Re: Calling all ferret owners

  • These are our two furbabies :) Charlie is the brown girl and Blaze is the white/silver boy. They are so awesome as pets!
Ours are actually the opposite with the litter box. If its too clean, they decide its a lot better as a dig box then a litter box. So we reserve some of the litter that was in the box but not used (so it still has a bit of the used smell but not pee or poo) and then mix it in with the fresh litter when we change it. But if you don't get that mix right, we must be prepared for litter everywhere! lol

p.s. I have never added pics before so I hope they work :)
  • They are adorable, @LittleMonkey1 !!! We have had the trouble of our ferrets digging in the litter. Talk about annoying! Do you take them on walks a lot? We barely ever let ours outside, mainly because it is a hassle since we put a play pen up for them- they don't like the harness.

  • We like to take them out every few days, although it turns into about once a week because of the weather. (We don't take them out if its too hot, and they don't like the dew on the grass in the morning). Have you had yours on the harnesses outside or just inside to practice? Ours aren't too fond of the harnesses in the house, because it slows them down from their play. But once they are outside they totally forget about them and love being outside. They are getting pretty good now and will actually walk in the same direction down the trails by our house.

Ours are notorious for carpet digging. They have free run of the living room whenever we are home and awake. But we let them play in our bedroom sometimes and they love jumping on the bed and running underneath the blankets. So our boy will now dig at the carpet a few feet away from the bedroom door, then when we go to scruff him, he will run to the bedroom door and stare at the handle waiting for you to open it lol
  • I don't know if we have ever tried their harnesses outside. Another reason why we don't take them outside very much is because we our local vets won't give them their shots. We would have to take them 50-60 miles to get them vaccinated.

Ours don't have free run of the house. The are not religious about going in the litter box so we would find their poop EVERYWHERE if we let them out. Plus we have a lot of exposed wires which they would chew threw. And they love to sleep. When we let them out, our one will put himself to bed about an hour or hour and a half later while our other one will just go to sleep in a toy or old pair of pants. We also have a Great Dane who likes to think of them as prey so they are just much safer in their cage!

I keep trying to upload a picture of them, but the website won't let me. I've also tried to find a picture of them on my Facebook to link to it, too, but we don't have any recent pictures of them.

  • The dark one is Rascal and the white one is Titan. Both are male. :)

  • Sorry, do you mean they spend most of their time in the cage?? They need at least 4 hours out of the cage per day. Ours don't have free run of the whole house. Just the living room, and there is the litter box in their cage plus two other litter boxes in the room. But they really need to be let out for atleast a few hours every day.
