Another Clomid Q & A

I'll be starting my 3rd round of Clomid tomorrow, this time 150mg. I have not ovulated on Clomid or off since I've been tracking in January. I have a bunch of questions if you ladies don't mind.

Have any of you ladies been completely annovulatory and had Clomid work? If so at what dosage?

How many ladies here have had success with Clomid?

I haven't had any side effects really on either 50 or 100mg, but I don't know if that's been because it didn't work for me. What has been your experiences with side effects? Do you think I will experience them with 150 when I had none at 50 or 100?

I know the statistics of it all. I just would like some first hand experiences with all this. Especially since my first two doses didn't work. I just have this feeling it isn't going to work. My RE says if this doesn't work we'll be moving on to injectables. So yea, I think that's it. For now at least.

Thank you ladies!

Re: Another Clomid Q & A

  • I don't really have any answers to your questions. I always ovulated on my own without meds and never went further than 50mg of Clomid. Also, my RE doesn't do Clomid by itself, they always start with injects.

But I do want to wish you luck. I know there are many women here that did go up to 150mg. I hope they have some answers for you.

I'm not sure. We will be having a sit down before changing to anything after Clomid and I will definitely ask that then.

  • When I did the Clomid cycle, I hadn't been ovulating on my own at all. I did one round of 100 mg and they cancelled the cycle because they said I wasn't responding. I did end up having a period on my own that time, so not sure if I ended up o'ing or not, since they stopped the monitoring.

I will say, that I responded way better to Femara. So you could always look at that as an option.

  • I did 4 rounds of Clomid and produced 1 egg on the second go round of 150mg. The main issue I had with it, besides the horrific hot flashes, was that it thinned my uterine lining so much that even if we timed it right, the embryo would not have anything to really cling to.

The idea of injectables used to be terrifying for me, but I can honestly say I prefer them 100 times over to Clomid.

Wishing you tons of luck and keeping my fingers crossed!

  • I wasn't completely anovulatory on my own; I had O'ed twice w/o meds before starting Clomid, but they were still long cycles. I didn't ovulate on 50 or 100, but I did on 150mg. So, 150mg was successful in that it made me ovulate, but I didn't get pregnant.

My only side effect on the lower doses was feeling a little hotter than normal. On 150mg, I had major night sweats in addition to general hotness. I also had some visual side effects (saw flashing lights a few times). That happened a few days after my last dose of Clomid and only lasted a day, so I didn't bother calling my ob/gyn about it.

    Wishing you lots of luck!

  • I am completely anovulatory as well. I never tried 150mg. My RE had told me at the time that only about 10% of women that don't respond to 100mg would respond to 150, so we opted to try femara instead. She did tell me that 50% of women who don't respond to clomid, do respond to femara (I was not one of them unfortunately), so I would definitely ask about it if it comes down to that. That said, I do hope that you respond to the 150! FX for a good cycle!

  • I was totally annovulatory. Clomid worked 2/3 cycles of 100mg as in it made me ovulate. I had a stronger Ovulation on 150mg and it was success and it was also the round that I got pregnant.
  • I only did 50mg, and had a lot of hot flashes and night sweats. However, I ovulated only 1 time without, and that was after 72 days into my cycle. Any other time, I did not ovulate.

I am really hoping that the 150mg is all you need, and you don't have to worry about any injectibles. But I would also ask about Femara if it comes to that point.

  • With the exception of 2 random cycles (one being the last one), I have been completely anovulatory for the past 5 years. I did two cycles of Clomid.

Cycle 1 - started at 50 and had no response so we upped to 100 within the same cycle. I did ovulate with that dose. BFN

Cycle 2 - started at 100 and the side effects got really bad, really fast (visual side effects: flashing lights/wavy vision/scary crap) so I only took 4 of the 5 pills b/c they said not to take any more. I never O'ed. Ended up needing Provera to start my period. I'm guessing I might have O'ed at the 150 dosage but I never got a chance.

I'm not allowed to take Clomid anymore because they side visual side effects can be permanent :(

In Christ alone my hope is found. He is my LIGHT, my STRENGTH, and my SONG!

I think should this Clomid round not work, I will definitely ask about Femara. I'm trying not to have a negative outlook on this cycle, but I'm having a hard time with it.

  • I'm not completely anovulatory without Clomid - sometimes I will O but it's usually a "weak" ovulation and a long cycle. Keep in mind that success on Clomid isn't measured by pregnancy, success is just considered ovulating.

50mg and 100mg worked but 50mg my ovulation was weak and my RE also thought a higher dose would lengthen my LP a bit. This past cycle was 150mg and did lengthen my LP from the usual 10 days to 12 but and I had a strong ovulation but still no baby in my ute. So there's that.

Side effects for me were hot flashes and mild weepiness. I got a little nutty on my husband with 150 but hey...he deserved it! ;-)

  • I'm currently on a cycle of 150mg and waiting to O (hopefully any day now but my hopes aren't too high). I didn't respond to 50 mg at all. I O'd late (cd27) on 100mg, so I'm hoping 150 will be the trick. I didn't notice any side effects on the lower dosage. On the 150mg, I have been hotter than normal, and when I was drinking last Friday, I had some super strange vision stuff...kind of fun since I was slightly tipsy anyway. No vision issues while sober though ;)
