How can i make myself work out?

I am such a lazy azz....  I have time to do it and such, but for some reason, I just don't do it.  I tell myself every night before going to bed that I am going to get up and go for a run.  Or get up and do a work out video.  I just cannot seem to get myself up to do it.  I obviously have NO self motivation.  I am sure there have been plenty of people out there who want to work out but just don't make themselves, so what did you do to overcome that???  I am not big or anything, just a little out of shape over the years... Lol Help me..

Re: How can i make myself work out?

  • I find the first day or two to be the hardest to motivate and I just force myself to do it. Once I'm back at it, I'm good to go and look forward to it. Can you schedule it for yourself like an appointment?

  • Perhaps you lack energy!!  I know that was definitely my problem until I started a new group of products called Advocare, they're great!!  Message me if you want more info and are still lacking that motivation.
  • Work out first thing in the morning after you wake up. You're less likely to put it off if you do it right away.

  • I started jogging last week.  :)  I'm proud of myself!  Lol.  Have done it everyday since Mon, the 14.  Its the 23rd now.  I have felt fabulous since.  More energy, better mood.  Love it!  I need to make myself stay on it!!!

I just got up one day and started.  I do this once in a while, I will do it for a few weeks then get bored with it and stop..  I am hoping to do this for good, but we will see.  Fingers crossed

  • For me, having an event or even just the holidays when I will be seeing a lot of family/taking a lot of photos can be motivating. I've been lazing around as well but started working out and modifying my diet recently. My husband has a graduation at the end of this year and I'd love to lose a little weight to look better in the dress I want to wear and in the photos we'll undoubtedly take. Putting that "pressure" on myself makes me realize it's worth the time/effort!
  • Check out toneitup.com. These girls are super motivating and post workout schedules and free workout videos every week for members to follow along with. They also have a GREAT community of girls that encourage each other on their community board as well as instagram and facebook. :)
  • Find something you love. I used to think I was lazy until I realized that I just hate the gym. But I love to hike and jog in the summer and jog and cross country ski in the winter. Turns out I just don't like working out inside but in my head thats what "exercise" meant.
  • I love yoga and look forward to it every time I go

  • I had to find something I actually liked.  Crossfit happened to be it for me.  I go immediately after work.  I don't stop at home first or else I will not go.

  • Well I went jogging for a good few weeks. Haven't gone since. I got bored. Lol, this is what I seem to do. Well now I just started Hot Yoga this week. I swear I LOVE IT!!! I went with my sisters Monday and have been back twice since, and way early in the morning! 6:30am early. I am NOT a morning person and I have gone anyways and I really think I found my "thing" And all by myself. :) So I bought a package. I think I am going to try to do the Hot Yoga 3x a week and there is this Free Yoga at the Beach every day, so I am going to do that on the other 4 days. I feel absolutely amazing! :) xo

  • I am having the same problem ! I think it is helpful to have a workout buddy to encourage you when you're being lazy, currently working on that myself. Once Iget a routine in place, I usually stick with it. Setting short/long term goals is always a good idea too.
  • Here I am again. Lol, I haven't done the hot yoga in 2 weeks now. I was having headaches so I didn't go to class, since it seems to make them worse. I am mad at myself again for stopping. Grrr. So, here we go again. What's next? Also I have been working more, so I am exhausted to get up in the morning and don't get home til night time.

I set a goal for myself. I really want to run in one of the Disney races. It's something I really want to do and my husband supports me, so now I wake up every morning and exercise. It's just routine now. I make it my goal, even if it's just 10 minutes, as long as I do it, I'm good to go! Hopefully I can keep this going to be ready for next year :D

Not sure if that would help you out, but maybe there's another kind of goal, like if I exercise oh so much, I can go out and buy new shoes or something!
  • They say it takes 14 days to make a habit so you are almost there! If you find yourself not enjoying it as much - switch it up! Do a different work out or download an app that will boost your motivation, or even sign up to run a 5K! My exercise routine is limited due to an injury but when I feel I don't have 100% enthusiasm for my workout, I do something a little different.
Have you tried looking for an exercise buddy? Maybe you can help each other be more accountable to exercising. Best of luck - you can do it! :)
  • Work out at night. Right from your first post, I noticed you seemed more motivated and awake at night. Do it then, while you can, then crash. See how well you sleep after. It will either get you exhausted for a great sleep or energize you. Then you can figure out where to best place it for the future. For now, I say start at night when you have no excuse. Good luck!

P.S. I find that when I am personally trying to start a new work out regime after a few months of being unmotivated, it works better at night. Instead of staying up late on the computer, or revisiting my studies for a recap, I will just do a quick workout and hit the shower before bed, I fall right to sleep because I am not used to using energy like that. Hope it works for you..

  • You just gotta push through. I don't think there are any tricks to becoming motivated. The only person who can push you to your full potential is you. You just find your niche and get in the habit.
I just started working out and it's rough! I've found that I do better in a workout class instead of trying to get up and do it alone. I've made friends and I look forward to seeing them each week. Also, having the class at a scheduled time period really helps because I know at 5pm I need to be at the gym for class. You'll figure it out. First step is get off the couch!!!

  • I can't remember if I suggested fitocracy or not, but you might want to try that.  You get points for working out and you level up as you go.  Logging the workouts feels good, and then when you only have a few points to the next level, you give yourself the boost to do a few jumping jacks.

    A suggestion.
