Making it Memorable

Hey Nesties!
What things did you do/buy/make to "immortalize" your year of firsts together? I am considering getting a special ornament made for christmas and I would love to hear what things you have done!

Re: Making it Memorable

  • For our first Christmas in our apartment, I was thinking of making something like the following:

As for the other Holidays, I am not quite sure.  We will take photos and I always save cards, though.

  • H and I had an artist on custommade make us a fused glass ornament for our tree. It's two penguins snuggled together to make a heart. When we have children we will have individual penguins made to go around it. We have and unhealthy love for penguins.
  • H and I got married in Oct. so believe it or not we received an ornament from a family member as a wedding gift, it was a crystal one which said the year I believe. We got one last year from the mall where our farm house is in MS and it was personalized right there with our names and year. There is an ornament that I have been dying to get which I found on Pinterest. You send them a picture of your house and then turn the pic. into an ornament. They are consistently behind on orders because it is so popular but this would be fun. Back when we were dating I just got some 'frame' ornaments at like Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby or Garden Ridge and took some pictures that we had taken throughout the year and stuck them in there and then on the tree they went.

Another idea that I had was to buy a clear round ornament and write out your year of first on little colorful strips of paper and stick them in the ornament. Each year you could dump them out and relive it all. You could smash the ornament together, signifying the past is gone, read the notes you put inside all year and have a new ornament ready to go to fill with new firsts in your second year.
  • Me and boyfriend pick the most memorable thing out of the year (getting engaged, our first house, him shooting himself in the foot) and we get an ornament that signifies that, and then we put the date that it happened.  So every year our tree only grows a little (we use the same colored balls year after year) and we can look back on what was important to us in the years prior.

I really love RachelG's idea to fill a clear ball full of memories.  I wouldn't smash it myself but that is a pretty awesome way to remember the year.
