Slow cooker?

I would like to get a new one that's programmable.  Does anyone have one that they love?

Re: Slow cooker?

  • I do! It's older and I can't find a link, but it's Crock Pot brand. It's just basic, but programmable...works like a charm!
  • I need to get one of these too. I like to make slow cooker meals when I work 10 hour days in the summer but I dont want to dry out or over cook my food.
  • My coworker puts her crock pot on a timer like you use for lights when your not home. She said she does it once a week. I tried it once, but DH set the timer wrong somehow. So you might want to practice first. Haha

  • Do you love it? I'm thinking about getting one too. My only problem is the cooked or uncooked food just sitting on the counter. Is that healthy and safe?

I have a Hamilton Beach slow cooker. I got it on sale at target a couple of years ago and it still works like a charm. I think I paid $30 for it.

I wouldn't be suprised if slow cookers go on sale soon since its fall/football season. if you're not dying for a new one I'd just keep an eye out for that.

I would definetly screw that up!

I think what most of them do is cook the food for however long and then switch to the warm setting.

    Thanks for the input, ladies!
  • Yeh- they switch to warm. You wouldn't want it to shut off or your food would just be sitting out- and that would cause bacteria to grow. I usually put the timer on for a bit less if I know it's going to be on 'warm' for a  few hours afterwards.

Someone suggested this to me once, but mine requires you to hit "start" when you are ready for it to turn on, so I couldn't do it.

But we love our crock pot and use it all the time.  And crock pot liners are an absolute must!
