@sparklingdiamond Dave is a nn for David. I think her plan is a little flawed...

    Madeline, Peggy? Haha that's ridiculous.

I think the words "ridic" and "legit" make you sound incredibly dumb.

@pistolpackinmomma Haha true!  Let me rephrase.  She wanted to name him Paul.  My dad wanted David, so he became David Paul.  If she had won, her plan would've worked!

  • The NN thing is funny because I was just having this conversation with myself this morning. I really like this one boy name that is traditional old school but not too old fashioned for a certain nationality. But then I thought, oh no, everyone will call him this for short. Forget it.

On the other token I really like a girls name that works well for a little one or an older person, but it's too popular that I don't want her to be the 4th one in her class with the same name when she is at school age. I already thought oh, we could call her this for short. But yeah, I see what you are saying about already shortening the name. Why not just name her that to begin with.. Well, because it doesn't work as well when she's more mature. lol

  • I really don't think I have my own UO today.. I need to come up with one for next week. I'm sure I could have many if I really thought about it.

  • @callitcompulsive  I still don't get how Sally would come from Sarah!  I always thought nn were supposed to be shortened names.  Just odd to me! :-p

My cousin is a Sarah and her grandfather has always called her Sally.  I always thought it was cute because he's the only one in their family that does it.

Hey all you Sarah/Saras....Does "Sar/Sare" not count as a nn? My friend Sarah has always been Sar(e) to me :) I am notorious for shortening names and giving nns to everyone. My only exceptions are my BFF's kids (she hates nns and I respect that) and my brother (be he is NOT a Dan... He is only Daniel)

T-TTC since Dec 2008. PCOS/nonexistant cycles(anovulation) and endo. HSG in '10 revealed both tubes blocked. Lap surgery in Dec '10 to correct. Failed Clomid/IUI and injectable(Bravelle)/IUI cycles so far.

I suppose, but that's really not much of an abbreviation. I guess I'm a nn purist, I want a nn to be a shortened version of said name. It doesn't take much more effort to finish with the last -ah sound. Like chopping Elizabeth down to Liz or Beth, or Richard down to Rich/Rick/Dick (lol) etc

Making Sara into Sadie though... adding two extra letters and a syllable? There's your blasphemy. LOL

  • @RockABye I'm an Anna and I hate when people call me Ann or Annie. When I was younger my mom had a horrible time with me correcting people all of the time. Someone would call me Ann and I would reply "Nuh". When they asked what I had said I would explain the forgot the last letter. Few people call me Ann/Annie though. ;)

DH recently tried to shorten it to "Sar".  I think it's dumb.  It makes him sound country and I don't hink it counts as a nickname.  I made him stop. lol
