What's your next adventure?

This is following on from the post wedding blues thread where people discussed how you need something else to look forward to when the wedding excitement is over. I thought it would be nice to have a separate thread to see what everyone's plans are!

I have been married 20 months so the wedding is well behind us now. My next major goals are career based, I want to get a PhD. I am in my third year of studies and just back after taking a 4 month break to work on my problems with depression and anxiety. The plan now is to really put my head down and get my thesis completed and written up so I can start looking for a job. When I am qualified I want to look into working for a couple of years in America (we are British) so I am enjoying that dream and reading about different states.

In the short term, my husband's 30th birthday is in December so I am working on plans for a small party, and in March we are going to London for 4 days to see an opera, so I am busy making up an itinerary and deciding which attractions to see.

What's next for you?

Re: What's your next adventure?

  • H and I got married a little over a year ago. Next on the docket is to buy a house and start TTC. I've been obsessively looking up property to buy but we just aren't quite there yet. So in the meantime, we're trying not to overspend while we save up. We're in a HCOL area though so it has been a little discouraging.

On the bright side, H still has 1 class to finish up to complete his degree and I have about a year left of my Masters so I guess it would be better to move slowly. I'm getting impatient though!

  • Our main one is not really fun, we are focusing on paying down debt! So no big vacations anytime soon.  We are doing a small weekend get away with my two brothers and sister in laws to Vermont the first weekend in November.  We are all looking forward to it AND its my aunts time share so the price to stay is super cheap!  We just rebuilt the front steps/deck on our house so that was a big project to complete.

Our next adventure will probably not be until sometime next year....we are considering the possibility of moving to Belgium but want to take a trip out there first before making any serious decision about it. We've spent a lot of time there already, so we are very familiar with the country, but it's been a while since we've been so we think traveling there again is a good idea. I might have a djing gig there next summer for a festival so that will be the perfect opportunity to go.
  • I've been married almost a year and a half. H is going back to school in January for 18 months to become a paramedic so we will be buckled down for awhile. Not sure we be going on any great trips anytime soon. But we plan to keep saving to build up emergency fund and house down payment. We plan on buying fall of 2015 after h finishes school. We are also in the process of trying to put more towards our mortgage principal as we are underwater.
  • Good post idea! Our next adventure is having our second child in March - I'm very excited, and also terrified at how I will handle a newborn and a toddler! I think we're in the situation of having too many adventures since we got married though! (Is that possible?) Since we got married two years ago we have sold DH's house, had our son, decided to move across the country, sold my house, moved across the country into an apartment, found out we were expecting baby #2, bought a house in our new city and moved from the apartment to the house when I was 8 weeks pregnant. I'm kind of enjoying the lull while we settle into our new home and before the chaos of a newborn!!
  • TTC for our first is coming shortly. Probably within the next 6 months to a year. In the meantime just having as much fun as possible!
  • Married a short time here but we already feel like the wedding was ages ago.

Our next Adventure is working incredibly hard and a lot of hours to try and pay off 33,000 of student loan debt that H has. We have 19,500 to go and are hoping to be done early next fall. After that we will be able to fully fund a 401k and save a lot more than we are able to now.
Once the loans are paid off we will start TTC and that will be our ultimate adventure.

  • WOW Leftie I can't imagine all that in such a short time. Good Luck :). I am also trying to enjoy a slight low right now. I have been married only four months but a week after our honeymoon we closed on a house andd moved two weeks later. We did that without taking any time off work so we have been working most of our spare time on that. After four month we are finally done with that and are trying to just take it easy before we start TTC in Jan or April.

  • We have a few next adventures... We each have career-related ones and on top of those we're saving up for a vacation home, which we'd love to be able to purchase in cash within the next three years. As more of a short term adventure, we're planning a vow renewal type of event in our home town, which is pretty far from where we live now.
  • Our next adventure will be at the end of May we are going to San Diego! My husband's brother is in the Navy and his wife and him are stationed there so we are going to go visit them. It will be the first real vacation we are going on since getting married 3 years ago. I am excited! The tickets are bought so now we are just saving up for the trip!

  • Between our fixer house and working really hard to try to get my career back on track after some major hiccups earlier this year, I'm having a pretty hard time thinking beyond the end of this year.  Not very sexy, but I guess that makes those my current adventures, LOL.

Not sure about our next adventure.  We talk about Hawaii, Alaska, the UK, and TTC a lot.  It's gonna be hard to choose.  Have to remind myself that we will get to all of them eventually...
