Washington DC

When is  the best time to visit Washington DC?  We are thinking about taking a trip in November.  Will it be too cold?

Re: Washington DC

  • It depends on your definition of too cold.  Where are you from?  What do you consider cold?

  • I like "off" times because then things aren't as crowded.  What is "too cold"?  It won't be snowing.  Today it is about 60.  You can wear a coat and gloves if need be.  Is the weather your only consideration as to the "best time"?
  • We decided to wait till Spring time so we don't have to wear a coat.  We live in NJ, so we are used to all seasons.  But when walking around etc, I find in uncomfortable wearing a coat.

  • We went in February and it was bearable and I live in an area that has never seen snow.  I would think November would be fine.

  • The temps in NJ are about the same as the temps in DC.   Maybe it's about 5 degrees warmer down here sometimes.  I grew up in Philly and live in the DC area now.  I barely noticed a difference.  If you are trying to avoid crowds, avoid cherry blossom time.  They bloom anywhere from late March-early April.  Late April/early May are good times to visit.  You might run into a lot of school trips in the museums.

  • If you come in spring make it early March or early May. DC is a very popular for spring break trips and everything is overwhelmingly crowded with huge groups of kids. So try to come before they start or after then end. Nov is definitely off season and typically light jacket weather for a NJer.

  • We are going there this spring for the cherry blossom festival. It will be beautiful and im okay with crowds. I have heard winter months are less crowded.
