Fitness post

I feel like its been awhile since our weekly check in!

How is everyone doing?

I'm really finding it challenging getting in my runs with the early sunsets! I wish I could run more on the weekends but my joints really aren't happy if I run 2 days in a row!

I got in a couple Zumba classes last week and a couple runs. I can get in 1 earlier run during the week although sunset is creeping earlier so it was almost dark when I went. But I had a pretty great run. But Saturday morning I ran and really struggled! I don't get how some days are great and some are torturous!! I think at least for this run it was the morning aspect that did me in. I am much better running later!

Re: Fitness post

  • I took my first full blown spinning class Sunday morning.  It was pretty great, better workout for me than just using the elliptical at the gym.  So that was fun (and my tush still hurts from the bike seat).  I got a short run in on Tuesday last week too.  I expect to run again tomorrow- and perhaps on Friday then another spin class over the weekend.
  • I finally got 3 workouts in last week!  I did Body Blast on Tues, zumba on Thurs and Sat.  And yesterday I took a walk in the afternoon, it was about 1.3 miles, but it was better than sitting on my butt all day.   This week I hope I can do the same.
  • Last week was my "taper down" week for my race training, so I did 2 short runs and Pilates class.

My half marathon was on Saturday.  It started out awesome, and I loved it...until I completely fell apart at mile 10.  I'm not really sure what happened, if it was first time nerves or I wasn't hydrated enough or what, I just know I hit a wall and couldn't recover.  Those last 3 miles were a total b!tch!  I really didn't think I was going to make it at times, but when I finally saw the end, I crossed that finish line like nobody's business!!  Seeing the boys, DH, and my parents at the end was really emotional.

I do feel a little betrayed by my legs, because I know I could have done better. I said my only goal was to finish, which was a total lie, because I really wanted to finish around 2:30.  My final time was 2:51, so not only did I totally miss my goal, I had my slowest pace ever...but I ran a freaking half marathon!  I am so happy to have done something that if you told me even 6 months ago that I would do, I would have said no possible way.  It was a great experience and I am looking forward to doing it again!

Thanks to everyone for all of the fitness posts to keep me accountable and motivated!!
  • Meghan, I think you rock for finishing a half marathon.  I will be honest, I have a hard time doing anything (even watching tv!) for over 2.5 hours, so I give you mad props for RUNNING for that long.  I took a walk the other day and I decided that if a few certain songs came on my iPod, I would jog. Only one did, and I jogged for approx. 3.5 minutes.  And thought I was going to die.  You are awesome!
  • Meghan that is amazing! I know it can be frustrating to not do as well as you had hoped but you finished your first half marathon!!!! That is a fantastic achievement!!

Thanks, Amber!  Although, I think you underestimate yourself...I bet you could stare at Adam Levine for 2.5 hours!  =)  Also, jogging for 3.5 minutes is really good!
  • Meghan, K has hit his half marathon wall around mile 10-11 too. SO it isn't just you! you trained and did what you set out to do. You should be really proud of yourself. And now you are part of an elite group of people who can say they ran 13.1 miles!  you rock.
  • Okay, Meghan, you are right.  I COULD stare at Adam for 2.5 hours!  ;)
