Reconstructing Amelia (no spoilers)

@janma529 you read this right?

Anyone else?

OMG I hate it so much.

It is such depressing, mean girl, drivel.  I saw it compared to Gone Girl, yeah not even close!

  • It's on my list because it's being made into a movie... should I take it off my list?

    Maybe wait to hear from Janet but I think it's one of the worst books I read so far this year.

    In my opinion no.

    Possible slight spoilers in the next paragraph.

    There are so many things about this book that are so far removed from any reality I know of.  IDK maybe I'm naive buts it's all about pointless secret high-school clubs that exist to torture people and parents who advocate for them.  15 year-olds are having meaningless sex left and right, every adult in the book makes horrendous decisions and are completely unbelievable characters IMO.

    hmm.
  • It took a long time, but in the end, I really liked it.

    Possible spoilers below:

    I think it's pretty indicative of what kids in high school go through, though it is very different with texts & facebook & the internet than it was when I was in HS. I agree that the parents made awful decisions, though.
  • I have to admit that I haven't even started it yet.  It's been sitting on our coffee table for about a month.  We have yet to schedule our next book club meeting, so I haven't had much incentive to start.  And now I really don't!

    Not just the parents, the school board, the head master and the English teacher!  I just find it extremely hard to believe that so many adults would act so poorly in relation to one situation.

    Also I really hope that is it not indicative of what kids in high school go through. I don't think the average high-schooler goes to a progressive prep school that costs "ten of thousands of dollars" and which has brutal secret societies that are admittedly dangerous yet the school board knowingly turns a blind eye to them.
