HELP! The vet told me not to worry but I can't help but worry

I have to pick my cat's nose every night, sometimes every other night. Black stuff forms in her nose. I told my cat's vet about this. She told me not to worry unless my cat starts vomitting, bleeding, etc. She is normal in every other way.

When I asked her what can cause this she said it can be cat litter or just something some cats get. I've never had a cat with this issue and I've had quite a few kitties so it worries me.

  • Is this a new thing? Or has always been an issue?
It could be herpes virus which is usually transient and they get over on their own, or a chronic sinus infection which is almost impossible to resolve, allergies, a tooth issue (not if it's been going on forever) etc

    Thanks for answering!

She is a year and a half. This has been going on for two - three months.
  • Sounds like it's time for a second opinion. Even if it is harmless, a good vet would have some concrete suggestions as to what could be causing it and changes to make (new food, new litter, etc.) to help with the problem. I'm sure kitty doesn't enjoy you doing it any more than you do! I've come to discover if it feels like something is wrong in your gut, pay attention. It could be nothing but it's better to know for sure than to keep worrying.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The vet said nothing! UGH!
  • True! What if she has an infection?! I will be getting a second opinion.
  • I agree with PP, it couldn't hurt to ask. And even if it is something simple like her litter they may have a recommendation that could reduce it like changing to a certain brand of litter
  • Did you take her to another vet?
