Where do you keep you kitchen garbage can?

I wish I didn't need a garbage can in the kitchen.  It takes up room.  I know some people keep it under the sink. which sounds great, but I feel like I would have to empty it multiple times a day. And then where do you keep the under the sink stuff?

Re: Where do you keep you kitchen garbage can?

  • We have a cabinet with built in garbage and recycling cans. They fit a standard sized kitchen can. I'm able to go about two days before I have to take the bag out.

  • i have room for a stand alone can for trash and recycles. I recycle a lot. And compost any food scraps I can. SO our trash needs emptied once or twice a week usually.

My parents always used a small can under the sink, and use a grocery bag for the liner.  We would empty more often- but it kept the dogs out of the trash!
  • Hope you don't mind me leaving a comment here! But I just had to chime in!

I just moved into a new apartment and I'm having issues with this. I am very limited on space and right now I have my trash can in this little bump out area where I will ultimately put my mini table and chairs (it's such a small space I have to find a table that is so small it will literally be a table for 2 people) ... it's not an issue now, but once I get my table I will have no clue where to put my trash!

If I put the trash under the sink then I would need a really small trash can and I don't think that there are small enough trash bins that will include that easy to open lid to keep the odor out of the rest of the kitchen.

  • We have it against the wall, it is where the door opens so it would be wasted space anyway. Plus, it is a semi-circle and is pretty flush to the wall. At our old house, I had to keep it on a stool so the dogs didn't get into it, it was super klassy. For the new house I splurged on this Simple Human one that locks.

I would LOVE this.  I wish it was included in our new kitchen.

  • We have a semi-circle garbage can, and I have it sitting flush against the end of our kitchen cabinets. (if that makes sense)
  • Regular circle can that sits against the end of our kitchen cabinets as well. I empty it probably 3 days a week.

Recycling is currently a gorcery store plastic bag that hangs from one of the cabinet doors. DH hates it. I'm hoping our permanent house has a laundry room off the kitchen and then I'm getting another can for recycling. I pretty much take the recycling to the can on the driveway once a day or every other day, when I head out the door.
