This is my first post on the boards here! woo hoo!
Anyways, I have a 1 year old chocolate lab, and my husband and I bring him to the dog park almost everyday. Well on Saturday we noticed that he has a pretty loud persistent cough :-( We haven't brought him back to the dog park, that way if he does have kennel cough, we won't expose any other dogs. We have a vet appointment set up for tomorrow, and she said on the phone that they will most likely prescribe antibiotics. I'm fine with that, but I also don't want to over medicate my dog.
Is kennel cough like a common cold that just has to run its course? Or does it really need antibiotics to clear up?
Re: Will kennel cough go away on its own?
I recommend using the antibiotics that the vet gives you and to use all of them/don't stop once you think your dog is better.
