Getting Nervous

There is no point to this post really but if anyone understands it's you all. I just called and scheduled all of my testing. I go in for an ultrasound and blood work Friday morning then go get additional bloodwork that afternoon. Then on the 6th I have a saline sono followed by an hsg on the 8th.

I was so excited to finally get the ok to get testing done and now that it's scheduled I feel so nervous. Nervous about the possible pain from the procedures, nervous about the results, just nervous.

That's all. Thanks for letting me put my nerves on 'paper' rather than bundled up in my head.

I was a bit nervous too.  I was really looking forward to the results, just not so much the poking and proding.  I'm a baby when it comes to blood draws, so that was the worst for me.  The ultrasounds are painless.  I've never had a sono?? but the HSG took like 15 seconds of "discomfort".  I definitely had to "breath through it", but throughout the procedure I was trying to compare it to a preview of contractions during birth, lol.  If that's all it was, I can handle it.  (Im sure they're nothing alike but that's what I do to help myself get through stuff).  It honestly was very quick.  So good luck on everything, but you'll fly right through it, I promise.  Just keep a calander of when everything so you don't forget bc it's alot to do in one cycle (but I prefered it that way so we could get started with any tx as soon as possible if neccessary, which it was)

My mantra was "it's for the baby, it's for the baby".  I'm a loon :-)

  • Totally normal feelings. I think a lot of the time it is so hard to make that next step because it truly makes it real. It is so overwhelming and there are so many emotions you go through. Good luck with the testing, I hope everything goes well!

  • Totally understandable to be nervous for all of those things.

I hope you're able to relax and take it all in stride and that it all goes as painlessly as possible!! (because let's face it, getting stuck with a needle or having your ute injected full of iodine are not comfortable experiences)

I'm sure you'll be intensely relieved to just have it all over and done with in one fell swoop!

T-TTC since Dec 2008. PCOS/nonexistant cycles(anovulation) and endo. HSG in '10 revealed both tubes blocked. Lap surgery in Dec '10 to correct. Failed Clomid/IUI and injectable(Bravelle)/IUI cycles so far.

  • It's totally normal to be nervous! I know for me, it was more the fact that I was not in control of the outcome, which always makes me very uncomfortable. In situations like that, i just try to picture a positive outcome and send it out to the universe. Try not to dwell on the what-ifs... It will only make you crazy. I'll be keeping my FX for a good result :)

  • It's totally normal to be nervous!  My first RE appointment was in the afternoon and I spent the entire morning at work "this close" to tears.  It's scary and overwhelming to think about what might be going on, and that you've gotten to the point where you have to go see what's going on. I remember being nervous, scared and pissed off that I was having to go to a fertility clinic!

The procedures themselves are no big deal.  The HSG was the most uncomfortable thing I did, and it really was nothing more than some discomfort.

  • Def normal to be nervous, but maybe your doctor can recommend something to help ease that somewhat. I think people here mentioned something about taking Advil before the HSG test to help with some of the cramping, no? Either way, think of the benefit of getting answers - this is a good thing to help you figure things out for the next steps. Good luck!
