Attention Wanted- Work related

Under Race to the Top for education, the states had to introduce performance based evaluations for the teachers.  My district implemented our new evaluation system in February.  NY is terribly slow and did not give out the teachers' growth scores from last year's state assessments until September.  My district is even slower and distributed the scores to administrators last week.

I had my meeting today with my principal and I am an effective teacher!!!! We're rated highly effective, effective, developing or ineffective.  You can be fired after 2 years of being ineffective.  I was totally prepared to be ineffective because I am in a low performing, high poverty school.  There is another test that was taken into account, and luckily my students did well enough to boost my score.

I can't talk about it at work because a few of my friends are ineffective and developing.  I clearly don't want them to feel bad.

  • Thanks everyone!

@cathyl7910- Every district negotiated their own evaluation system.  Regardless, the state assessments counts as 20% of our total score in grades 3-12.  In my district it's 60% principal observation and 20% a local test.
