With Positions to Fill, Employers Wait for Perfection

American employers have a variety of job vacancies, piles of cash and countless well-qualified candidates. But despite a slowly improving economy, many companies remain reluctant to actually hire, stringing job applicants along for weeks or months before they make a decision.

If they ever do.

  • I think everyone is still wanting to play it safe in case the economy tanks again.  I know we started putting more money in savings this year and I think twice before spending it when we are out.  I'm sure companies are the same way.  Banks have been getting free money from the govt and they are hoarding it.  We have had new banks open in the area or add on to the existing banks.  On the flip side some companies are hiring without any hesitations.  One of my adult student's quit her job a month ago because it was too stressful and affecting her health.  She found a job last week.  It didn't take her long at all.

  • I think the economy is headed for another crash...just a gut feeling based on all the instability and uncertainty of the government. All it takes is for some key investors to start selling off stocks and then the whole thing will come down.

The investments pundits will say that there are no indications of this. But, that's what they said prior to 2008. At that time, only a few people were sounding the alarm, and no one listened.

That said, are we still putting money into retirement IRA mutual funds? Yes. But we are 30 years from retiring.

ugh, I'm sure we are :(  I feel that the US economy is just treading water to stay afloat and that's probably how it will be for the next 3 years.  We are still saving on retirement too even though my mom freaks me out about how the government will take your retirement one day and it's better to just keep it all at home, not with the banks.  What are ya gonna do though?  If you don't invest then when you are retirement age you don't have the funds to do so.  I need to sell off my profits soon. and if the economy does crash again, I will take advantage of it and buy some funds at a cheap price.
