Gonzaga University students could face expulsion for gun
SPOKANE, Wash.-- Two Gonzaga University students could be expelled for
using a gun to protect themselves at their University owned apartment.
GU leaders said the students violated a policy all students show know about when living in a school owned apartment.
Seniors
Erik Fagan and Dainel McIntosh felt they needed to protect themselves
in late October when a convicted felon came to their door asking for
money. Fagan said he yelled for his roommate after trying to get the
man to leave. McIntosh came down with his gun, which he has a
concealed weapons permit for according to Fagan. The roommates said
McIntosh scared the man off by flashing the gun.

Re: Gonzaga University students could face expulsion for gun
First of all I believe that everyone has a right to protect his/herself and if that means having and owning a gun, I am okay with that. However, a big part of carrying a conceal carry permit is that you are still subject (like it or not) to the property laws that various organizations impose about making "gun free" zones or areas. If you choose to carry a gun into these premises and you are found out, then you can face charges.
That said, I think this is a tricky spot because this was someone's place of residence. Key word being "residence" and most states have laws protecting one's residence. Now if you technically don't own the building in which you reside then does that prevent you from defending it with force - the force of a firearm?
I don't know...
