Christmas Cards?

Just posted this on another board because I didn't see this one (new to the nest - just got married last weekend :) My husbands family is big on sending Christmas cards every year and he wants us to send one out. It is weird to send one since it is just the two of us? I've never send Christmas cards.

Nope. You can totally send Christmas cards even if it's just the two of you. It sounds like his family does the photo ones, which you* don't have to do. But if you husband wants to, it isn't awkward for a couple to do them.

    *You're. dammit.
  • I am planning to do one for just the two of us. I just think it is a fun thing to do. :)
  • I started doing Christmas cards after we were married, the photo ones. Before this I would just include Hallmark card with presents for those that were getting presents, i.e. parents, grandparents, sisters, brothers, etc.
We got married in Oct. so the first year we did Christmas cards we took one of our wedding photos and put it on a photo card digitally from Walgreens.com. It worked out well and we were able to get like 40 for like $15! Plus you get the envelopes. I love Walgreens.com for this type of stuff. I was able to pick them up within like 3 days. Yes you have to stamp them, yes you have to stuff them but you don't have to compromise yourself by licking them. YUCK. Invest in an envelope sealer. Office Depot.
Second year, we had our photos done because I couldn't find one that we had taken throughout the year that I could use on the card. We chose three photos that worked well with the card that I picked out from TinyPrints.com. This was far more expensive but there were things that they included that I can't get from Walgreens. For example, the corners of the card are rounded. The back of the card is decorative, you can have your address printed on the envelopes, etc. I paid $100 for all this last year but it was worth it. I was sent coupons from TinyPrints.com this year so I may end up doing the same.
We just got back from Italy so I plan on using several pictures from our trip this year for our card.
  • No, it's not weird at all.

  • We married late in life and it is just the two of us. We have done photo or photo collage cards for the past 3 years and plan to do one this year. The first year it was a wedding photo of us and the two dogs (one was the ring bearer).
  • Not weird at all! We sent out Christmas cards before we had kids. It's always been a tradition in my family, and I love getting cards. The last few years my mom, sister, and I have been really into making our cards on http://www.shutterfly.com/cards-stationery/christmas-cards. We take a nice family shot and then spruce it up on Shutterfly so they don't look so boring :P
