Does anyone else feel like this?

My husband and I just got married in the middle of August. Before when I just lived with mom and dad it was easy to keep my space clean and on top of work and everything. Since i've been married and I don't have mommy to stay on top of everything else I have not been the best at staying on top of everything and seeming like you have it all together. Any words of advice to not be anxious about not being perfect or how do you stay on top of everything?

Re: Does anyone else feel like this?

  • I would say just try to do a little bit every day. Like after dinner make sure to clean everything up and wipe it down.  before bed tidy up the living room.  I do a little laundry at a time. Like instead of waiting until one day to do it all, I will do a load like every other day.  It seems to not make it as bad.

If you just do a little everyday it isn't too bad.  Just keep on it, because I know once the mess is a mess it is harder to clean it up.  Clean stays clean.  :)  You aren't super woman, and have your H do his part too.  Like he cleans dishes if you cook etc.

  • I agree with PP, you can do a little every night, or use the weekends and get it all done. Our cleaning day is Saturday or Sunday depending on our plans. It only takes a few hours to dust, vacuum, clean bathrooms, mop, iron, and do laundry if you are both doing it together. We live in a townhouse condo so we rotate weekly doing upstairs and downstairs. We don't do any housework during the week except pick up clutter (paper/mail, dog toys), do dishes and wipe down counters as we go along. It's so much easier that way for us. We have no kids and we aren't messy people so everything is pretty neat looking anyway.
  • Make a list of weekly chores and split it with your DH. Check off things when you do them that week. My DH and I started doing this recently and it works wonders. We each know what needs to get done and what the other person has already done. It's a good reminder, and keeps my DH involved too. And I agree about doing just a little here and there. And it's not the end of the world if some laundry sits around for a day or so.
  • I agree with PP that "clean stays clean."  However, I have calmed down a bit and realized I do not need to wash all my floors on my hands and knees every weekend, nor do I need to ensure every speck of dust is taken care of immediately.  We both make a conscious effort to keep things put away on a regular basis -- especially in the kitchen -- so when the weekends come, we usually just need to sweep, wipe down the bathrooms, dust what we feel like, and swiffer if we can get away with it.  My house does not need to be inspection ready at all times -- it just needs to be liveable.  Since I gave up the desire to have our home sparkling, I enjoy my home and my time in it much more.
