D had a birthday party for a classmate on Saturday. What on earth do I get for a six year old girl?

Most girls that age love art supplies. For my cousins birthday I just went to WalMart and bought her a pack of construction paper, markers, colored pencils, stickers, etc. Spent around $20. Even found a tote bag on clearance to put it all in. She loved it.

I agree with @klm42404 - Lilly loves art supplies.  Last year for her birthday she asked for a horse, a unicorn or a paint set.  Guess what we got her?  Any kind of stuff animal too, or play jewelry.  Lilly loves the little pet shop toys.

I think art supplies is a good idea. For my nieces I usually go up to Burlington. They have cheap little purses or lunch bags for the girls, and then I fill that up with stuff like those feather pens, stickers, stationary, and whatever else I can find. They both got a whole bag full of stuff for under $20 and they loved it.

The girls in my class last year were all about writing in their "diaries," which were basically glorified notebooks.  Throw something like that in with some fancy pens/markers and maybe some stickers and you'll be set!
