I want a few Lego sets for Christmas so bad.  Seriously.
And it is incredibly likely that I'll be getting the hubster a Lego set too.
    Practical?  No.  Fun?  Yes.
My parents told me a few years ago that they would never get lego sets for us because we are adults.
I guess being an adult means you aren't allowed to play anymore.
But seriously, I will display our Lego sets in our house way beyond old age.

DH was so excited when Gavin was old enough for Legos.  We just went and browsed for some ideas for him for his birthday and Christmas.  DH was more than a little excited over several of them.  I'm not sure which of my boys will enjoy them more!

  • I have been searching the house for days for the LBJ biography that I (thought I) had a distinct memory of opening. I even made Shaun go to the basement and check our luggage to see if I took it on a trip and didn't unpack it. I've been halfway stressed about it because it is LBJ month.

It arrived in the mail today.

I'm kind of upset about the exchange still.  I feel like my elf wasn't going to send me anything until she got shunned on the board and figured she'd make good.  The first package never got here and I'm questioning if she ever even sent it. I like the exchanges and it kind of put a sour taste in my mouth because of it.  I feel like a terribly greedy person even thinking that or mistrusting that she did try the first time.

I'm sorry that you feel this way.  I always had good experiences with exchanges but I haven't done one in a while.

(the timing of your gift was a bit suspect though...)

  • We're going to a barbecue tomorrow night at the house of my two friends who just got married, so we're bringing the wedding gift I just got them (the wedding was last month, so I think Miss Manners says I'm still cool).  My confession is that aside from the two of them I hate their other friends and I plan to spend the bulk of the non-eating evening with their new kitten and the other cat and two dogs (a corgi and a german shepherd).  I'm tired of trying to be nice to these people who look at us like we have three heads.

  • I went to a performance of Potted Potter last night and I got a HP trivia question wrong. Well, not so much wrong as I couldn't even guess an answer.

In my defense, it was from DH and I haven't gotten to that book in my re-read yet. But still, how embarrassing,

  • I just got out of my regular meeting with my boss and found out that after Thanksgiving I'm moving out of my cubicle and into an office, and effective immediately I've got a new title that is an upgrade from my current title. I'm really happy about it, and I've been hoping for something like this for a while. My confession- I'm still going to be job hunting at the first of the year. Maybe not as intently as I'd orignially planned, but definitely still going to see what's out there.

  • My dog is driving me crazy today. I work from home and I don't know what his deal is but the past few days he's been into everything and has barked constantly. I'm at my last straw. I don't even know what else to do. DH said to put him in the back yard, but I feel bad doing that because he's a small dog and its quite cold outside.  We were very busy all last week and this weekend, so I'm thinking maybe he just has a lot of pinned up energy. But still.

Then you would have been able to draw a prize from the Sorting Hat! I got detention from Umbridge and had "I Must Not Tell Lies" written on my hand. (But that was still pretty fun, NGL)

  • About 2 seconds after we told my parents we were having a baby, my mom posted it on Facebook.  I was about 4 weeks along, and it was NOT cool - we are friends with some of the same people and, well, it's simply not cool to post other people's stuff.  When a friend called to ask if I'd seen what my mom posted on Facebook, I called her and basically went off, and told her not to post about things going on with me and mine on Facebook without my saying it's okay, or posting about it first.  She apologized and deleted the post.  It was up for about an hour.

Now, 10 weeks later, she's got it in her head that I am censoring how and what she talks to her friends about (not only on Facebook), and sends me passive-aggressive email reports on how she didn't talk to her friend about my kids because I didn't say it was okay, or can she tell her friends what my kids dressed up for Halloween as because I didn't specifically say it was all right, etc.

It's so typical of my mom to be the victim even though she's the one who did something thoughtless and of course it's all my fault.  My dad and sister have even called to tell me to apologize to my mom for "my issues" and for yelling at her when she'd clearly done nothing wrong.

Umm do we have the same mother?? I feel your pain!

  • DH is gone until Monday, so it's just me and the kids.  Tonight, I lost my temper with my kids because they wouldn't stop fighting and antagonizing each other.  I finally got my son into bed and my daughter continued to argue with me/whine, so I told her she lost having a book read before bedtime.  This turned into a full on fit, to the point that I yelled at her so loud that she covered her ears and started sobbing.  I feel like a giant a-hole right now.  :(

  • On a funnier note, my son (20 months), said "pee-pee" (for the first time) and grabbed his "pee-pee" as I was changing him.  He thought it was pretty darn funny.  I tried not to laugh because I knew he would just continue doing it.

Don't worry about this....every year my husband asks for legos. Most years he doesn't get them not because I don't *want* to buy them but because they are all the huge sets that are hundreds of dollars and therefore out of our "two grad students" budget :)

Kids are rough at bedtime. It sounds like everyone was tired and frustrated with each other, especially after they were fighting with each other so much. Plus Dad wasn't there so everyone was thrown off a little. I hope you all had a better morning. :)

  • Thanks @Booknerd226 We had a better morning.  We've still had a few more fits and meltdowns (for both me and the kids), but we've made it! :)

Your mom sounds like a 13-year-old. And the topic of many a Carolyn Hax advice columnist (I love reading her columns. It's really reassuring when you see the same kind of crazy in other people's families.)

My (belated) confession? I went to a conference this weekend on the coast and dh came with me. I was thinking I'd meet him for lunch and dinner when I could, but I had so many people I wanted to talk to and things I was excited to work on that I barely saw him. He said he felt like a housewife. I, meanwhile, absolutely rocked that conference and got tons out of it.
