AI questions

We just booked a package trip to an AI in Cape Verde over Christmas. I've never been to an AI before, so I really don't know what to expect.

The resort has a buffet and a half dozen restaurants that require reservations. Is this like a cruise, where we need to dress for dinner? (My SO will dress up if I ask him, but by default he's in band t-shirts and shorts, so I would need to let him know before he packs.)

Any general advice I should know ahead of time?

And stab in the dark, but has anyone been to Cape Verde? I'm guessing that since SO is a native Portuguese-speaker it shouldn't be too hard to venture out and see some of the islands, but I haven't found much on my usual travel blogs.

Dinner attire should be listed on the resorts website.

Generally it is long pants(dress pants not jeans),closed toe shoes and collard shirts for guys (some places will allow dress shorts and dress sandals) and sundress or skirt and nice top or dress shorts and nice top with either dress shoes or dress sandals for ladies.

Two general tips: Do not over pack and make sure to get off the resort and explore.

We've never been to that resort but we have been to several AI's in the Caribbean and MX. In the link below my siggy pic is our website where I have reviews and tips. HTH

  • Cape Verde isn't a resort. It's a country.

The resort is the ClubHotel Riu Funana in Santa Maria, on the island of Sal. I've looked at their website, but I found anything. Maybe I missed it?

  • Sorry, I know Cape Verde is a country
my wording was not coming out correctly as trying to fish and type at the same time just doesn't work :) . It should have read as "to a resort there but have been to...."
Anyway, try searching tripadvisor (you probably already have though). I found a few post on other Riu's that said about the dress code. I'd plan on packing a couple nicer clothes just in case. I know when we go to Sandals Whitehouse next year we plan on packing one nice pair just in case we go to the one restaurant there that does require nice attire (lucky for us it's only one of the 7 that does as dh hated dressing up).

  • Thanks! I'll try reading more of the TripAdvisor reviews. Good idea! I think I might also try their UK-based forums, since that's where I found the most info on transfer options.

I emailed the resort too, so maybe they'll reply.
