Re: Clare!
Hi! No worse for the wear - the surgeon said there is a brain in that stubborn noggin' of his.
In all seriousness, though, it was very surreal. I got a call from an EMT via DH's cell yesterday - kinda stops your heart for a bit. One of his colleagues ended up staying with him at the hospital all day; I managed to get there around 8:30 last night (had a neighbor stay with the boys).
In short, he got knocked over pretty hard and fell, cracking his head open on concrete and losing consciousness for probably 20 minutes, we can figure. Around 4:30p the ER decided he had to go to OR so that they could properly clean out the wound and staple him up. I finally saw him around midnight last night and stuck around to make sure he was settled and to get his belongings.
He's sore and dizzy today; big headache, as expected. Ornery as usual. So, pretty normal!
Long day and night, and day again today. Have I mentioned these Southerners are sweet but slooooooowwwwwww?! Then put them in charge of a hospital / patient care... good Lordie!
Thank you for asking!

Thanks everyone - he's home and armed with good drugs. Very tired, of course, and off tomorrow and in for mtgs on Friday.
Kris - I know you can relate! When these guys deal with big machinery, it's serious stuff. It's really killing him that he can't remember exactly what happened - he's blaming himself, but it might just have been something out of his control, too. I'm not sure they'll ever know.
Thank you, everyone, for all of your thoughts and well wishes. It's the worst thing being 30 miles away in an area you don't know and your loved one is headed into a surgery where you are not familiar with the medical community. While it helped that he had a colleague there for the first part of the situation, I didn't like him being alone during and after surgery- although he barely remembers me there last night anway.
Gwen - you hit the nail on the head - Irish, stubborn heads! I swear it saved him. And yes, Meghan - wine is in order for this weekend for sure!
Counting our blessings tonight!

Thanks everyone - it means a lot.
He seems to have some short-term memory issue the last two days - I'm hoping it's just the meds he was on. I'll just have to keep an eye on it. He has a doc appt. next week to remove the staples, so the next few days I'm making him lay low and heal. I think he's just starting to realize how bad it was now.

Aren't you nice for asking?! Thank you!! He's doing better - still very sore and can't believe he is still "down" - I have to remind him he's not 25 anymore. He goes on Wednesday to get the stitches out.
I think he still has some short term memory loss and he seems to be hearing things - but then again, he was never very good at listening (or remembering things that don't affect him, so I don't know!).
If anything, though, I think he's starting to realize it was worse than he thinks. Maybe not a bad reality check, either.

Clare - I'm just seeing this now - will keep Tomas in our prayers. Make sure he sees a specialist if the symptoms continue - head injuries are not to be messed with or taken lightly. Definitely needs time to heal - taking it easy although I'm sure thats the last thing he wants to do! Hang in there!
