Newlywed, Searching for our home.

I honestly have no idea where to start when it comes to buying a house. Currently I am in the Conroe area, in apartments. We don't have any town in particular in mind but I'm looking for a guide on where to get started with the whole home buying business.

TIA ladies.

Re: Newlywed, Searching for our home.

  • My husband and I are new to Houston, but we've been looking into the housing market here as well.

The Greater Houston area is made up of literally dozens of neighborhoods. From what I've come across in my research, if you're looking to live in the burbs with great schools, beautiful homes that are affordable and a solid community overall, the Woodlands are a great pick. The downside is that it could be a long commute depending on where you work. I know it's about a 40 minute drive to the University of Houston's main campus, if that helps you with some perspective.

Other areas I've heard good things about: Linkwood (older homes that have been well-maintained, but a little pricey), Bellaire (nice, but pricey. Over $230K easy). I sound a bit biased because we're looking to move to the SW Houston area.

I hope everything works out for you! It's an overwhelming process for sure. But as my hubby points out, choose a solid realtor and let them do the hard work since they know the area best!

  • I know a great relator if you need one. She helped us find our awesome house here in Rosenberg. We've been here a year and we couldn't be happier.
  • I live in Conroe, and we LOVE the area. I grew up in The Woodlands and  can tell you that the traffic in that area is about to get crazy with the Exxon Mobil complex being built. Good Luck!! Let me know if you need any advice.
  • Zillow is a great place to look online for houses.  They give you recent tax info too.
