Noah's reading group in school is reading Superfudge.   In this book, the whole "Santa is your parents" thing is discussed.  (Thanks a lot Judy Blume!)   Noah still believes with his whole heart.  This isn't really the way I want him to find out.   Especially at this time of year!  I'm sure he's not the only other 3rd grader that believes.  Would you sent an email to the teacher?   Part of me wants to, but then the other part feels like a jerk for maybe messing up a teaching plan or something.    So what would you do?

I would totally email the teacher just to find out how he/she plans to handle it.  I don't think that's out of line at all.  Better you know than worry about it, at least!

Wow - that's awful Amber! Poor Noah! I'd for sure email his teacher. Even if he (and others) do not read it, how will she handle the kids potentially talking about it to others?? Never hurts to ask, and I'm sure you're not the only one wondering. Good luck!

I'm already dreading this kind of stuff coming up!  I say email the teacher to see how she's going to approach the subject.

I would email the teacher to see how she plans to handle.  Also I think there is some type of letter floating around Pinterest on how to address not believing in Santa if you do have to have the conversation with him.  Even if he doesn't read the book, 3rd grade seems to be around the time that some kids know the truth, so as the holiday approaches, I'm sure he'll start hearing the rumors!

Thanks everyone!  Just thinking of this makes me want to cry!  I figured this is likely the last year for him to believe anyway, and I just don't want Superfudge to ruin it a month before Christmas, you know?   I did email her, and I'll let you know the outcome.  

We also have this book at home, and he has to read 15 minutes a night.  He was reading it at home too.  Yesterday when he was at school, I hid it.   He was ready to do his reading last night and I was all "oh, I don't know!  IT was right there.  Why don't you read that new book you got?"

I found out in 3rd grade too- but I just figured it out on my own. But after that it was fun to help my mom play santa and keep it fun for my sister.  Kev read that part of SuperFudge to EJ, and we were unaware it was coming. He was hilarious trying to fake his way through the chapter without ruining it for her.  I am interested in the teachers response to your email too.

Oh I am so glad to see you emailed the teacher! I am hoping she didn't realize that came up in the book? It's sad thinking about when they don't believe so definitely keep that going as long as you can! Definitely let us know what she says!!!

I think emailing is a good idea.

I would like to add that I am so sad to think of finding out at 3rd grade. Seriously do I only have like 3 more years of Santa with dd?!?! I didn't stop believing till late so 3rd grade seems so young. Ugh...with having only 1 kid it means I dont have another kid to keep going with! Once she is done that's it!

my sister believed longer. Even though I was trying to make it stop, in like 5th grade. But I still think she was trying to hang on because she thought she woudl stop getting presents if she stopped believing.

That was me! I believed till like 5th grade. I doubted for a couple years before that but was too worried I wouldn't get presents! Figured I'd better be on the safe side and keep believing!

The teacher got back to me with very good news!  They are aware of the situation in the book, so they only plan to read up to Chapter 8.   Which seems odd to me...why only read half of a book, but I don't really care!   WHEW!   I'm so glad I checked with her and eased my mind.

Oh Amber, that's great news! now you don't have to worry about it.  although i'm also confused about only reading up to chapter 8 and I wonder how many kids will want to go ahead & keep reading??

exactly! seems alittle silly---like aren't there other books ? but hey im not the teacher and just glad they are aware. i'd be sad for u if that is how he found out!

I was a 5th grade believer also.  I had major Peter pan syndrome as a kid. I had no desire to grow up.

Note to self....no Superfudge reading in our house until 5th grade. I was a doubter for a while but 5th grade was kinda the official discussion from my mom....

i dunno, super fudge didn't really have a cliffhanger type plot line running through it.  And honestly if you skipped the chapter about santa I don't believe it comes up again.

Excuse my language but what a dumb book to pick anyway! Aren't there a million other books they can choose from to read and they pick one that "outs" Santa. 

I think I believed until at least 5th grade, maybe 6th.  I mean I knew the flying reindeer thing was a stretch but I couldn't fathom my parents buying us all the gifts they did for 5 girls.
