what's everyone getting the teachers this year?

I have 2 preschool teachers and a dance teacher to buy for and I am at a total loss.

  • I have started to think about this too. DD teacher this year for Pre-K is a big into Toys for Tots and request giving donations to that vs a gift for her. I love tervis cups for gifts. Great customer service too. My free shipping code wasn't working and the guy via chat gave me his email to send the order # and he would refund.

We always brought some baked good for the daycare teachers. And did cards and gift cards for her teachers. PreK was at daycare so we knew her prek teachers well.

I hadn't thought about this For this year yet. Id love to hear from other school age parents. With daycare we really loved our place, had been there for awhile and dd was there all day.

Now in kindergarten, I feel like she/we barely know her teacher and she's only there 2.5 hours! What do we give?
We have after school too but honestly I have been less than thrilled with them! I really don't know about doing something for them

I know this sounds cheap of me, but I am gifting my kids (preschool and first grade) teachers a box of chocolates. I know this sounds AWFUL as last year and prior yrs I spent much more but I am annoyed that they sent out an email listing each teacher and gift cards next to each teacher that they would like. (Almost like a registry for Xmas). So with that, they get chocolates. Go ahead, call me Scrooge...
  • I do either 1/2 hr massage gift cert or $25 Amazon gift cards for each main teacher and then something homemade. At the beginning of the year, I did a survey of the 2 teachers in each DDs' rooms of favorite things, birthdays, favorite stores/ restaurants, thing to do on a Friday night, etc so I have an idea what each wants. I organize an Xmas and teacher appreciation week collection for each class...

So I think it's great some places give you a list of teacher favorites!! As the daughter and sister of teachers, all those coffee mugs and knick knacks make it to the yard sale pile at some point. There's only so much lotion to go around (hand sanitizer is another thing). Both my mom and sis kept handmade things, ornaments and decorate their classroom tree and other personal things.

I also bring in a pizza lunch one day for everyone in the center since I'm sure almost all teachers see DDs at some point.

  • I always bring in a big lunch for all the teachers at the daycare, and then get something additional for the main teachers in Michael's class.

I'm thinking about getting Jackson's teacher a wine thermal and a bottle of wine.

  • The room parents organize a class gift at daycare. We throw a party and give them a card with money. We'll also give a copy of our Christmas card since it has professional pictures of the kids.

Last year I knitted a pair of fingerless mitts for Heather's teacher. Now that she's been at her school over a year, she knows the German, Art and Gym teachers well, too. I was thinking about knitting some small Christmas ornaments, like snowflakes, for those 3 plus her homeroom teacher. Plus maybe a gift card for her teacher. We know she's getting third grade level books for H and a few of her classmates, so I'd like to help with the burden from that.

My mom was a teacher as well.  I think that's why I stress over getting the teachers something decent now. I've seen some of the strange odds and ends that my mom has brought home over the years.

  • I'm not sure.  This is the first year that a class gift isn't being organized by daycare (in previous years, parents chipped in if they wanted and there was a lunch bought for the whole center, and individual gift cards for the preschool teachers)  I will probably still stick with gift cards, just need to figure out what to get.

And, first year for buying for an elementary school teacher....gift cards still appropriate??  I was thinking somewhere like Target.

  • We usually buy breakfast (usually Panera stuff) for the daycare.  It seems like every teacher deals with my kids at some point during the day, so instead of doing something small for everyone, we do this.  It's always a big hit.

I'm not sure what I'm doing for Noah's teacher yet.  I may check at Penzy's - we got his first grade teacher a cute teacher set there, there were 2 spices and a recipe book.  I figured everyone can use spices.  (And they were general ones like their "all spice" and cinnamon").
  • We're doing gift cards, probably to Target.  I was also talking to a few other moms about pitching in to do a breakfast or lunch.
  • Cash or Gift cards and we make chocolate covered pretzels usually.

Yes..... I think on cyber monday they had 20% off and free shipping last year. They do sell at Bed Bath and Beyond but like ordering from their site also. :)

Yes ma'am - I actually gave Gavin's teacher a nice card and gift card at Thanksgiving last year, instead of Christmas. I think it stands out a bit, that way. (Kiss ass Mom here.) LOL

This year, Gavin's teacher will get a gift card - to where, I'm not sure yet.

Conall has two teachers - each will get a $25 gc to Target. Sean has two teachers as well and will get the same (well, the one will get Walmart - since it's closer to where she lives and I'm pretty sure she's not a Target gal). I'm probably going to talk to the director and give her a gift card to Dominos for a team lunch - since all of the teachers there, at one point or another, help out/get involved with the kids. Dominos is right up the road and convenient for them, but I'll double-check first if they would like that.

And I thought about asking a couple of Moms if they would chip in towards lunch, but considering Conall's room had a T-Day "feast" yesterday and only 5 out of the 10 kids' parents brought a food item, I don't think that's going to happen!

    My three sons!

  • I got a cute gift at a shower I may re-create.  It was a mason jar with nail polish, a file, correction stick, etc. in there.  I may also add in a gift certif to get their nails done right across from the school.   I noticed one teacher had her nails nicely done.  I have to check the nails of the other teachers.  :-)
  • My sister said she doesn't think she has actually paid for Starbucks since she started teaching bc of the gift cards she has gotten. And that's not a bad thing!

My mom used to make homemade pumpkin rolls for our teachers growing up.

  • I usually do a gift certificate for a manicure.
  • We usually do Visa gift cards or cash, very unimaginative.
  • I usually get gift cards for Giant Eagle.  You can use their gift cards to shop or buy gift cards for places they like more :)
