Survey finds doctors rebelling against Obamacare, famous hospitals declining to join

Obamacare applicants across the country are finding their premiums are tripling, their favorite doctors aren't available, the physicians they can see are often far away and many prestigious hospitals offering specialized care are off-limits to them, according to a Washington Examiner survey of health insurance agents and brokers across the country.

  • It is only a matter of time before this thing gets repealed and replaced.  People that are getting kicked off need to buy their insurance themselves thru the individual market, it's more affordable. Or go to a doctor that has branched out and only accepts cash payments.

It's really very simple.  If a health care exchange is going to cost you three times what you're already paying, why would you join the exchange?  No one's forcing you to.  The exchanges were not created to insure all of America, they were created to insure those who previously couldn't get insurance on their own.

Um, really?  Isn't there an individual mandate stating one HAS to purchase a plan or be subject to a fine?

There is no mandate that you have to purchase through the exchange.  You said that Obamacare premiums were three times higher - then there's no reason to go with them.

True there is no mandate to buy via an exchange. ACA/Obamacare premiums ARE higher for people and people do not want them. But the issue is that many people had health insurance coverage that they liked and they got dropped from their plans (after Obama said they wouldn't). They cannot afford ACA OR other plans. Now, they will get tax penalties for not carrying health insurance.

I work in healthcare and we are very worried and conscious of the changes going on in healthcare right now.

What happens is that people do not contact potential insurance companies or their doctors to find out if they will be able to continue going there with their new insurance. I work at an independent clinic and I have had to tell several patients who are considering new insurance plans that some plans that are contracted to the major medical facilities in this area, such as Aurora, and our doctors don't have contracts with Aurora or admitting privileges at any of their facilities. Patient's need to be more aware of their insurance and what it provides them with. I get patients every day who expect me to be able to tell them things only their insurance company can.

Under the ACA my premiums went up $6 and I now get generic drugs without a copay which is awesome.

you also likely have coverage through an employer which means you won't probably see any real changes to your policies or premiums until next year because those requirements haven't hit yet. Some have started making adjustments and such but most are waiting to see how things shake out this year on the individual market before making grand scale changes. I don't know that I'd count on that $6 being the end of it.

  • Obamacare isn't something you "join" any more than you "join" the Americans with Disabilities Act or the Civil Rights Act.
