cuticles - how to get them more moist and healthy?

Background: I don't care for my nails at all. I don't get manicures or paint them.

My cuticles are very dry and sometimes painful and I'd like tips on getting them healthier. Is moisturizer the key? Sticking them in paraffin? Thanks! I have no idea who to ask this IRL.

  • Especially this time of year, I'm sure your hands could become super dry, even worse than what they usually are during other seasons... so i would start with moisturizer because that might be a cheap route. Plus, it could help the skin on your hands too! I noticed that mine got better when I kept my hands moisturized!

  • Lotion and/or cuticle oil. Even a couple drops of olive oil will help a lot.
  • and coconut oil...
  • Using a moisturizer specifically designed for nails or a cuticle oil is the way to go. Apply it every now and then. Not only will it make your nails look pretty your hands will smell great too.
  • I use coconut oil. I buy it at the health food store, and then transfer some to a smaller jar to use in my hair as a conditioning mask (before washing), some to another jar to use as a body/hand/nail moisturizer before bed, and I cook with whatever's left in the original package. You only need a tiny bit if you're using it as a moisturizer (or hair mask).
  • Solar Oil is super easy.  L'Occitane makes the best cuticle cream.
