Cleaning hardwood floors and ceramic tiles

What do you use for cleaning your hardwood floors and your ceramic tiles? i was thinking about the steam shark but was wondering if it is harmful to the finishing on the hardwoods. also wondering if its possible to 'scrub' the tiles with the shark....seems like you are supposed to use it like a vaccum almost...not like give it some elbow grease if you know what i mean.  our families are asking what we want for christmas and i think we could use something to clean our floors but not sure what...

Re: Cleaning hardwood floors and ceramic tiles

  • I think a Shark is good for a quick wipe down on floors, but it wouldn't be the same as really scrubbing them.  SO like a swiffer on steroids. the heat loosens some gunk, but not for a deep clean IMO. We had one, and I think it was left behind in the move...oops. And we used to use it on our hardwood floors which were circa 1964... with no ill effects on the finish. But I cannot speak to all wood floors being the same either.

I agree with Amanda, I borrowed my sister's when we moved in to our new house to do our floors. I was meh on the thing. It is nice for a quick wipe up but I still had to scrub them.

Now, I had a Hoover Floormate and I loved that thing. It was amazing and my floors were so clean. I did not use it on the hardwoods in our old house because they were in really bad shape seal wise but on the tile and old linoleum amazing. When we moved we lost some pieces but I am considering a new one since we have hardwood and sheet linoleum currently along with two dogs who like mud. It was rewarding seeing all that dirty water, I feel the same way when I clean are carpets. ;)
