Exactly this.  When I read that I really wanted to comment.  Nowhere in the Bible does it say that behavior is okay. Nowhere!

If you want to get technical, the Bible actually touches little on parenting.  There are only 2 spots in the bible that touch on it, and it's for barely a verse.

As a person who got spanked for stupid shit like this I really want to post a comment on how much that affects the child all the way into their adulthood.  My dad spanked to show control and ownership over us, and to make it so we would never step out of line.  That landed him a very unhealthy relationship with both of his children who resented him, and my brother still does (he's 30). This lady is nuts in thinking she is raising her children in a Biblical way.

Like really? If she has been on the bump at all she knew it would be controversial and that is why she put it there just like that.

Developing a healthy relationship with food is incredibly important. She is just ridiculous and then trying to "explain" her way out of the mess.

When my daughter says NO to eating something I offer her another option. If she says NO to both she either doesn't get anything at that point in time or I ask what she would like. She is 20 months. No is one of her best ways to express herself along with yes. Ugh. It just grosses me out. How about instead of "swatting" your 6 month oldyou ssay no no and redirect?

Like wiggy said, by commenting "We spank." She knew exactly what she was doing. She wanted to talk about that. That is a ridiculous thing to say without further explanation off the bat.

Also, she did contradict herself (she claimed to have such a good handle on her position). She said that her children are required to try something before they can decide they don't like it, suggesting that if they do decide they don't like it then they don't have to eat it in the future, correct?

But before that post she said they are required to eat some of everything on their plate at every meal. But what if you made something that they tried last week and decided they didn't like? Does she not force them then? Isn't her point to not give them a choice?

I can't imagine she is so creative that they have brand new foods at every meal every day so this point contradicts itself.

And she is just bat shit cray.

AGHK! Her response just makes me want to smack her (hey, she's okay with it). Not a single one of those verses say, "go ahead and spank your child."  Even the NKJV version she's referring to.

But what makes me want to smack her is her response.  Pretty much saying that no matter what you say to me my pastor has told me to smack my children.  So I will do so. 

Maybe I should refer her to "Sacred Parenting" by Gary Thomas.  I know the Bible can be taken in completely different contexts, and that's why there are different divisions of religion.  But this lady is nuts.  Like 1950's "put the fear of God in them" crazy.

Her: There are the general Prov 22:6, and Prov 13:24 along with Romans 3:23. Eta there are way more, but I doubt you really care.

Actually, I do not believe (though I am not an expert) that there are specific references for when you should spank.

Just curious, but does it matter? If you are not familiar with the verses, they obviously have no meaning for you and you won't use them. But if you can find some way you think I may be misapplying them, do you think I'd listen to your opinion on such a matter instead of my husband, other family, pastor, church family, moms group, or anyone who actually supports what DH and I do?

I'm a Christian, I have no issue with spanking at certain times, when the kid is old enough to understand. Spanking over food, however, is not appropriate. I have read the verses she refers to and NONE of them specify when you should or shouldn't spank. She was trying to start something... and then she couldn't take the heat.

So, unless you are familiar with all verses they can't be valid to you or in your life? I am a Christian and I don't have many verses memorized but when I read them they are relevant to me.

Perhaps her pastor would be ashamed to know she is expressing her beliefs that way. "You better know it or it won't have any meaning and there is no point in me spreading the word to you!" But, if he's an abusive lunatic, perhaps not.

I'm in this camp too, but FFS over eating and saying no?!?! clearly she knows NOTHING about child development!
