what kind of calendar/planner do you use?

Right now, I depend on a regular old-fashioned wall calendar that hangs in our kitchen to keep track of any dr appointments, bday parties, get togethers, etc....  However, I have double booked us or completely forgotten about something at the last minute more often than I care to admit recently.  Also, we have this little issue of Brian never ever ever even glancing at the calendar to know what's going on.

So.....what is your system, and how do you sync up with the hubby?  we both have iphones, I'm just clueless as to what to do on there to make it so that we both are looking at the same thing!!

Re: what kind of calendar/planner do you use?

  • We use the Cozi app.  I totally forget how we were able to share the same calendar with each other, but it was probably pretty intuitive since we were both able to figure it out.  ;)

You can color code events, set reminders, etc.  We sometimes slack at using it, but it is nice back up for me every time Rich claims I never tell him anything!

  • There is an app that is a family calendar, it's called Cozi.  You can both add and sync to each other so it's always up to date for both of you.  It sends emails about weekly dates, too.

I use the old fashioned kitchen calendar hanging on the wall.  I have an iPhone and have the Cozi app, but for some reason I can't get used to using that instead of a paper calendar.  I'm old, and when you're old it's hard to change your ways!  ;)
  • We have a shared Google Calendar. You still have to look at it, but I like having access wherever I am and you can set it to alert your phone before an event.

DH set it up so we can both use it, so I can't guide you through that. But as long as you both have google logins, it should be easy.

I also have a private google calendar for keeping track of things that DH doesn't care about and work things. I can see both at the same time and the listings for them are two different colors.

  • I downloaded the Cozi app but didn't really use it.  I use a old fashioned paper pocket calender in my purse for most stuff. I like being able to glance at the entire month and see what is coming up.  But we use a weekly white board at home that changes each Sunday to remind us of things that are coming up that week - haircuts, church activities, birthday GTGs, etc.

DH uses his iPhone for reminders. I just have to tell him to enter the stuff

  • I don't have an iphone or internet on my phone (only person on the planet, I know), so we have a dry erase calendar on the fridge.

  • Forgot two things - There are a numbers of apps that work with Google calendar. I use GooCal.

Also, we have a paper calendar in our upstairs hallway so that the kids can see upcoming events, holidays, soccer games, trips, etc. We cross off the days as a part of the bedtime routine. And talk about upcoming events as a family.

  • I use google calendar, and tried to get Kev onboard with it. But he failed at participating. So I guess I am the master of our social calendar. I should quit my job so I can focus on just that.
    :))
  • Ditto Amanda. Steve refuses to use anything for planning purposes. I keep track of everything. I use my Outlook Calendar and then I also have a paper planner that I write details in and take with me. I like having the paper calendar.

Whenever he wants to make plans for something, he calls me and asks if he's busy or if we have plans that night, and I tell him what's going on on that particular date.

I'm considering getting a big wall calendar/planner thing for one of the walls on our second floor, but I haven't done it yet. I've seen some attractive organizing centers out there.

  • I use outlook for work which syncs to my phone & then under the cloud part of the iphone John & I have a "home" calendar that we both add to so it syncs to our phones.  It says that it goes to his yahoo email so I'm sure there's a way to access it online (b/c its a pain inputting stuff on my phone all the time) but not sure how to do that.

I always wanted to use an app but never looked into it.

  • Also - they are color coded so what comes from outlook is green and what comes from personal is blue.

The thing I HATE about iphone calendars is the lame reminder, alert & repeating choices.  They are all preset

  • We use Google Calendar and just share the calendars with each other.  Each kid has their own color and calendar; I have a calendar and a work calendar, DH has one.  We also have a Bill Pay Calendar.

  • Ok, so those of you who use google calendar...does it sync with your phone or do I need to install an app to use that?  also, if I already have my outlook calendar syncing to my phone, will that automatically go to brian's once I figure out how to link ours?

this is so confusing to me.

  • The calendars that I created in google are synced to my phone's calendar, but our shared one (that DH created) is not. So I use the GooCal app to see all three calendars in one place, but I should probably try to get our shared calendar synced on my phone and drop the app.

I'll report back if/when I figure it out.

  • Aaaaaand, I figured it out. You have to set-up the calendars when you are logged into google on a computer/tablet, but once you do they can be synced to your iPhone.

If you do that and need help, just ask. :-)

  • I also have our school calendar sync'd into my google calendar which I was super excited about. They had an ics file I could upload.
  • I live off of my calendar on my phone! Will Brian check emails? I used to have an app that I could text anything from my phone to DH's and he would click it and it would go right on his calendar!! That one disappeared when the upgrade happened-I still miss it,haha. So we found ShareCal! It doesn't work with texts yet but I can email it to him and he just clicks it and it's on his calendar!! Let me know if you got questions!
