announcing a new email

With three weeks of marriage under my belt, I feel like it's time to debut the new email address with my married name....any advice on how to do so? Do you send a mass email of BCCs to all your contacts? Should it be from the old or new address? What about people I haven't contacted in a long time - leave off the list? I don't want to annoy people and don't want to start conversations with long-lost college friends or old co-workers. What would be good etiquette in this situation?

Re: announcing a new email

  • i just changed the name on my email account but didnt send any mass email notifying anyone of the name change.

For my work email- i put a note in my signature in the bottom that said, formerly known as Christine Maiden Name and left it there for a bit,

  • I just sent an email to my contacts saying "Hi everyone just wanted to update everyone, this is my new email address!" Or something along those lines.
  • I created a new email but kept my old email. I didn't send a mass email but basically just slowly let personal contacts know over time if they emailed my old one or I would just email them from the new one and they just "got" it.  I still have my old one. I use it to get shopping deals and other junk mail type things.

  • If you're worried about contacting people you're out of touch with, I wouldn't bother contacting them, especially if you have a facebook account or what not. They always have that way to reach you if need be.
