I'm back!

Hello ladies!

Today is my first day back from ML.  I have mixed feelings, of course, but am glad to be getting back into a routine.

I'm friends with most of you on FB but I never posted about Zoe's birth so here's the quick and dirty:

At 36 weeks but BP was getting slightly elevated (think 120/80). They mentioned gestational hypertension and that if I still had it at 37 weeks, the doc on call could deliver me if they wanted because I'd be then at a risk for pre-e.  So they made me come in for BP checks every two days and I had to go to triage.  Both times I went to triage, everything was perfect - low BP, blood good, urine good, no swelling - but whenever I'd go in the office for a BP check, my numbers would go up.  I swear, it was white-coat syndrome.  So at my freakin 37 wk appt, it was up again and they told me it depended if the doc on call was 'by the book' or not whether I would be scheduled for a CS (I had a CS with Jack so I couldn't be induced).  Of course I got a doc that was BTB.  I was SO upset (like, blubbery mess sobbing) because I was really hoping for a VBAC and I really wanted baby (we didn't know if it was a boy or girl at the time) to cook those extra 3 weeks.  Plus, Jack was born on his due date and silly me wanted to see if I could go 2 for 2.  I tried all forms of reasoning to persuade them not to deliver me since my BP was only up whenever I'd go into the office ONLY! No dice.  So they gave me the option of that day or the next day.  I opted for the next day since we wanted to get Jack taken care of.

Zoe Evelyn was delivered the morning of Oct 3rd and was 5.5 lbs.  She passed all her screens so they didn't see the need to keep her and we went home 4 days later.  Sometimes I still get upset when I think about the whole thing, like I didn't stand up for myself enough, but I'm resolved to the fact that a VBAC will not be in my future if we have #3.

Anyway, here's a pic of the little chunker (she's almost a healthy 10lbs at 2 months)

  • Awe, she's adorable! And I love the name.  Sorry to hear that your birth plan didn't quite work out for you, but i'm sure the outcome was worth it ;)

  • She is gorgeous.  I'm sorry you didn't get exactly what you wanted for the birth, but I'm glad she's doing so well.  How is big brother handling this new person in his life?
  • Jack is taking it pretty well. He loves her for the most part - is always petting her head, rubbing her back, kissing her, etc. It's really only when he's super cranky (which thankfully, isn't often) that he points to the swing and says 'baby, swing' because he doesn't want me holding her.
