Cats, maybe dogs too - anyone have this experience?

When my cat and I are snuggling or having time together, I swear his eyes fill up with tears and emotion (not all the time but it seems to happen when he is extra loving).

Can a cat really tear up like humans? I'm hoping he is and saying I Iove you to me. Maybe I'm delusional? lol

I think it is possible but very very rare. I know one of my cats used to "tear up" but it turned out that I was linked to my emergency deodorant. (deodorant I wear only when I run out of the stuff I usually use). Cats have an excellent sense of smell and he could smell it and was allergic or something to it. I didn't wear that deodorant again. Lol

  • Have you asked you vet about this?  Maybe he has something wrong with his eyes or allergies or something.

  • No, I haven't. He only does it once in a blue moon when we are spending time cuddle together and I talk to him a lot.
  • Cats can feel emotions like humans can. He could be saying he loves you too, then again it could be your laundry detergent, or air freshener.. all sorts of things that 'smell' could cause it especially if you change something from your normal.
  • I really doubt it was an emotional response but I guess you never know...Maybe he's just making extra eye contact during your "cuddle sessions" so his eyes tear up from not blinking as much?
