Re: Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill Discussion!

  • I loved it.  I've read through book 6 at this point.  Merit is awesome. I love her love of mallow cakes. I also love the frankness of the characters.

I think I will wait for other comments because the books are blending for me a little, I want to make sure I don't spoil anything.

  • I really, really liked this book.  It's difficult to find a new take on vampires that I enjoy as much as I enjoy the Chicagoland vampires.  I like the set up of the houses and of the drama and intrigue the author has written between the houses.  The world is just so much fun.

I love Merit and her story.  She is intelligent and independent and I find her to be hilarious.  I love how she interacts with her group of friends/acquaintances, Mallory and Catcher, Ethan and Morgan.

I am a huge fan of Ethan. He irritates me at times, I can't help but love him anyway.  I am really curious where the author is going with him.  I've read the first two, so I don't remember exactly where things end in the first book.

  • @SnShne322 are there 6 books out in the series so far?

@Lauren620.  I think there are currently 8 out with 2 coming next year.  I plan on picking up the next two soon.

  • I loved it!

It's been a while since I enjoyed a series this much. I ADORE Merit. She is so REAL and I love her snark and confidence and that she lives without apology. Love.

The witty banter between her and Ethan killed me. Hysterical, and I found myself grinning from ear to ear a lot - but in the first few books I didn't really even like Ethan. I thought he was kind of an arrogant douche and not in a good way. His only redeeming quality was that he was hot. Not enough for me.

I ended up binge reading through book 5, and I'm taking a breather to read The Winter Sea before reading the rest. Who else has read most of the series? I had a "throw the book across the room" moment with book 4.

The series had a kind of Vampire Academy feel, right?

Um, yea.  TOTALLY.  Just when I was ready to move on, BAM!

  • I liked it, even though it felt like an adult version of Vampire Academy. My favorite parts were the snark and the Merit's moments of introspection. I am not a fan of Ethan yet, but I think I'll pick up the rest of the series at some point. Not every male vampire lead can be Bones, right?

The one thing I didn't like was that she didn't bite anyone! Title fail.

  • I NEED TO KEEP READING!  I have been telling myself that I would keep on reading with the series and I stopped after book 2.

    Bahahaha! SO TRUE.

It doesn't even really feel like they're vampires because they're so boring and rule abiding. What kind of self respecting vampire only drinks from blood bags? They're two steps away from being Cullens.

  • I love Merit. I think she's hilarious and genuine and she doesn't feel forced. I read up through book 7, and they  get a little formulaic after a while, but the world is still fun and enjoyable. I gave books 1-3 four stars, but everything after has been 3 stars for me. They're light and entertaining and each character is a great added voice to the story.

Re: love interest. As hot and intense as Ethan is, his arrogance made me want to smack him. Repeatedly.  Also, for as strong a psych as Ethan is supposed to be, I never see it. His strategy always seems to be "give in to everyone's demands". What the hell? You can't think your way out of it?

Since not everyone has gotten that far, I don't want to spoil anything, but I love Jonah too. Sigh.

  • Random thought: Merit's love affair with food won her huge points with me. I get annoyed when characters are overly finicky about food. Maybe I'm just a fat kid and can't relate.

  •  I love Merit, too!  Ethan has grown on me as the series goes.  I just finished the 6th book in the last week or two.  I'm really far down on the hold list for the next ones though.  :(

I almost quit the series after book 4.  I looked up spoilers for book 5 before I would even begin to pick it up.

I completely agree.  She eats like I feel a lot of people do.  She knows she should eat well and tries (sometimes) but food urges hit us all.

Is anyone from Chicago? I know it's sort of an alternate Chicago, but are these food places real?

  • Love this series!! Merit is a kick ass character who I think everyone can relate to in one way or another.

I agree with the VA feel to it. I just finished book 4 and will download book 5 tonight.

I am also loving how this whole Chicagoland world is coming together.

If those places are real, I know where I'm gonna eat next time I'm in Chicago!
