My mom did well on her book choosing for me.  She got me a copy of In the Devil's Snare: The Salem Witchcraft Crisis of 1692, by Mary Beth Norton.  I can't wait to start this one.  :)

On a different note, my sweet, dear grandmother gave me a watch for my birthday.  Not just any watch, but a super sparkly, pastel, floral-y stretchy band watch.  You guys, it's so ugly I just don't even know.  But she means well.  One year she got DH and me a really tacky plastic 10 Commandments clock for Christmas.  Oh well.

Pic doesn't even begin to do it justice:

Indeed.  Indeed it is.  I had to share it with someone.  It's even painful to wear it, as it is full of sharp edges and stretchy bits that snag your tiny arm hairs.

Plus, I'm a terrible liar.  She's going to call me later and ask me how I liked it, and I'm going to have to be good and not say anything.  I tell her time and time again not to spend money on me because I know she can't afford it in the first place!!

  • That watch is fantastic!  I wish I still had it, so I could take a picture, but my great-aunt once gave me a ring watch - stretchy band, but worn on a finger.  Maybe if you wore a lot of bracelets?
  • Ha! That gave me the giggles

That was my first thought--that it looks painful to wear!

  • I wouldn't even know how to respond if I opened that. This is why I hate opening presents in front of people.

She lives in Mississippi.  It was just DH and me, and I knew it was bad but his reaction...was just priceless.  He's much gentler and kinder than I about these sorts of things and even he was horrified by it.

  • Lol I wish I had a picture of all the sweatshirts my grandmother buys me and my sisters. They are all way too big, and have graphics on them, like snowmen, gum drops and candy canes, etc. I never know how to react, and she buys them every year.

  • I would rather have that watch than the re-gifted used cherry pitter my MIL gave to me two years ago.  Or the devil oven pull she got me last year

I CAN'T wait to see what AWESOME gift I get this year.
    90 books in 2015?

  • I kind of love it.  It's exactly the kitchy kind of thing I would totally wear.

It might attack you.  It's got lots of pointy ends.

  • Maybe we should post all the gifts we get that aren't our style. Maybe someone else will love it and we can send them off to better homes.

I think that would be awesome.  I kind of like the devil oven thingie.

  • I can't see the pics for some reason.

  • I think I saw the people pitching the devil oven thing on Shark Tank one time.  It looks super familiar.
